TBS today announced the release of a new Crossfire Nano RX which has a beefed up telemetry data power amplifier onboard that can deliver telemetry data back to your transmitter at up to 500mW. There are low, medium and max power setting options to choose from for the telemetry data power but there will be a dynamic power option also coming in a future firmware update.
Trappy has done some test flights out to 40km with it without a single telemetry sensor lost warning on his transmitter. He is planning on doing some more test flights out to 60km to see if it can go that far without loss of telemetry data. This effectively means that you shouldn't lose Crossfire telemetry data unless you are flying extreme long range.
Keep in mind that for a quad, a 500mW telemetry data link is probably an overkill unless you fly in an extremely noisy environment. The standard Crossfire Nano RX outputs telemetry data at 25-30mW and people have flown out 10-15km in a clean RF environment without losing telemetry data on those. The regular Crossfire Nano RX is still being manufactured so you will still have a choice of buying either the cheaper regular (20-30mw telemetry power) version, or the more expensive PRO (500mW telemetry power) version. This new PRO version of the Crossfire Nano RX is probably really more suited to long range wings that have the battery capacity and efficiency to go out further than 10-15km.
This is also the first TBS receiver that has been manufactured 100% in-house by TBS (the assembly of the receivers that is, not the production of the silicon chips used on them).
A diversity version with 500mW of telemetry power will also be coming but TBS can't currently get the chips to manufacture those so it will be at least a few months before they can start looking into producing those.
On a related note, a new feature is also being built for Agent M to show telemetry data maps, so with your mobile device connected to the Crossfire / Tracer TX module, Agent M will use GPS telemetry data coming from the Crossfire / Tracer module to show where your aircraft actually is on a live map overlay
That feature is currently be tested by alpha test pilots.
The price of a Nano RX Pro is $34.95 USD.
