I was told there is a setting in Radio Setup that controls how the Taranis presents itself to the PC. It can be either joystick or USB storage. You can change the setting to "Ask" every time you plug in. ok , So I found where the USB option Ask should be (in open TX SIM)(using ver 2.2v0018) but my Taranis is not giving the USB option "ask" in fact the SIM shows USB mode in between "play delay" and "default channel order" but its not there on my taranis screen. do I have an bad version of Open TX? do I need to set my radio back to Factory Default Settings? Please advise - Rain is here and cant fly outside so I need to fly my SIM. Thanks !!! • Posts: 21,397 Threads: 593 Likes Received: 9,029 in 6,683 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 795 Yes, that is exactly where the "USB Mode" option should be on the RADIO SETUP page. At least it is on the version I'm running which is OpenTX 2.2.2RC5. What is the exact version of OpenTX on your X9D+? To find this out, switch on the Taranis and when the home page appears, long press MENU and then press PAGE 4 times. You should see the VERSION page. Mine shows the following info:- Code: FW : opentx-x9d+ VERS: 2.2.2RC5 (2296cd5f) DATE: 2018-07-17 09:38:36 EEPR: 218 UID : 002B0024 32375103 39313935
Also, check that the Bootloader of your X9D+ is on the same version because depending on what method you use to update the firmware, the Bootloader and OpenTX firmware can get out of sync as I've discovered in the past. To check the Bootloader version, power off your X9D+, then hold both the trim switches under the sticks towards each other, then with them held like that turn on the Taranis. You should get a screen showing the "OTX Bootloader" version at the very top. This should match the same number that was shown on the VERSION page in OpenTX (in this case "2.2.2RC5") • Posts: 7 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Dec 2018 Reputation: 0 (02-Dec-2018, 12:30 AM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: Yes, that is exactly where the "USB Mode" option should be on the RADIO SETUP page. Ah ! in the Bootloader page (when I hold the two trims in as I turn it on) i see 2.1.6 and I see 2.2.2 when I use OpenTX on my pc • Posts: 21,397 Threads: 593 Likes Received: 9,029 in 6,683 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 795 02-Dec-2018, 10:08 AM (This post was last modified: 02-Dec-2018, 10:43 AM by SnowLeopardFPV. OpenTX on the PC is just the "OpenTX Companion" software version and not the firmware on the Taranis, so while even though you're seeing version 2.2.2 of the companion software on your PC, you might still have OpenTX version 2.1.6 on the Taranis itself (both OpenTX and the bootloader). The bootloader and OpenTX software are two separate components on the Taranis each with their own version numbers. To see the actual version of the OpenTX software that is loaded on the Taranis you need to go to the VERSION page as described in the second paragraph of post #2 in this thread. There is at least one tutorial out there on the internet (I think on YouTube - I forget the exact source) that shows you how to update the firmware in such a way that it only updates the OpenTX software and not the bootloader of the Taranis which can result in the bootloader/software versions to get out of sync and this can cause some spurious issues to occur. Whenever you do a firmware update to the X9D+, always do it in with the X9D+ in bootloader mode:- - Disconnect any USB cable that may be connected to the Taranis and ensure it is switched off.
- Hold both the trim switches under the sticks towards each other and with them held like that turn on the Taranis.
- Plug a USB cable into the Taranis that is connected to a computer.
- Run the latest version of OpenTX Companion 2.2.2 (available at the bottom of this web page).
- Download the latest version of the firmware through OpenTX then write it to the Taranis.
- Download, unzip, and copy the OpenTX 2.2.2 SD Card contents for OpenTX 2.2.2 to the SD Card in the X9D+ (you need the sdcard-taranis-x9-2.2V0018.zip file which can be found HERE).
I'm assuming you know how to download the firmware and apply it to the X9D+ using OpenTX Companion. Likewise with the SD Card content. If you don't then just follow Oscar's very helpful guide at the following link... https://oscarliang.com/flash-opentx-firmware-taranis Once you've done all this, please come back and confirm if it resolved your issue (or not). I'm 99.9% sure it will but it's always good to know for sure Posts: 7 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Dec 2018 Reputation: 0 (02-Dec-2018, 10:08 AM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: OK. Thank you, thank you, thank you SnowLeopardFPV !!!!!! (New Sub on youtube !!) No worries and it's great to hear a successful outcome I finally got round to installing the trial version of VelociDrone on Friday (should really have done it months ago) and have been on it for half the weekend. However, being restricted to just being able to use the QQ190 in the football stadium in the trial version wasn't cutting the mustard, so I quite quickly decided to bite the bullet and just pay for the full version. Probably the best decision I made as it's an awesome sim. I spent just over 13 hours on Steam LiftOff a few weeks back during their promotional free weekend trial which I also really enjoyed, but if I had to choose one over the other then VelociDrone just pips the post for me. If money is of no concern then I think both are worth having as part of your sim toolkit as they both have their strengths and weaknesses Thanks for the sub. I'm still a rookie at the moment and not a good pilot, plus it's now the miserable wet and windy winter season here so don't expect any decent content on my channel any time soon I'm hoping some stick time on the sim might help to change that a bit. I guess we shall see after winter is over • Posts: 7 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 1 in 1 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Dec 2018 Reputation: 0 03-Dec-2018, 06:03 PM (This post was last modified: 03-Dec-2018, 06:05 PM by rob thome. Edit Reason: spelling ) I bought the full version about 6 months ago but got frustrated when it didn't work right away and decided to pick it back up once the weather changed, now that winter is coming I felt that id better get it done so i can keep flying. As for your flying skills don't worry about it , they will only get better with practice and the SIM should help out alot with that, infact that was another reason for getting this going on my end. learning new tricks can get expensive everytime you crash. I think I must have played the SIM for about 5 hours last night and must have crashed at least 100 times - thats a huge savings $$$ and 0 time at the work bench doing repairs. I have recommended a buddy of mine do the same with his son before they even buy a drone so they can get used to the idea before they crash it and set it on the shelf until it can be repaired . That was my first experience , paid a lot for a RTF and destroyed it on its maiden flight...wished I had a SIM at that time. Anyways again I really appreciate you taking the time to help out . Ill be watching for your videos and if we ever are lucky enough to cross paths , Im buying you a Beer.
