Talk me out of it,,, fiberglass batteries?
#1
I searched and googled and haven’t seen anyone fiberglassing a lipo.  Occurred to me when putting my battery on a bottom mount battery that a thin layer of fiberglass would offer a nice amount of protection for the battery.  Also, I’m a terrible pilot so I crash a lot.  I also have tons of resin and glass so no cost.  Don’t really care about weight vs say shrink wrap or tape.  A lot of my flying is over gravel, sand, rock etc.

I know lipos can swell so I was wondering if that’s the reason why no one has done it, or if it is a dumb idea for other reasons?

Last question, I also was thinking of glassing a larger Li Ion pack I am going to make and thought about glassing in a QD clip to the battery vs using batter straps?  That done anywhere?

Noob questions apology in advance.

There are 3d printed products like this that cover the bottom of the battery.(for bottom-mount quads) You could do the same in fiberglass. I wouldn't bother doing the whole battery, just the bottom side of it, and maybe 1/3 the way up the sides. The top of batter is protected by the quad itself.

Or you could make fiberblass 'corners' as mentioned in this Oscar article: (He mentions PVC corners, but you could make something like that out of FG if you wanted.)

there are different sort of protections on the lipo itself. some have a sort of aloe plate as protection...
