The Ukrainian people are a strong and courageous people. Against overwhelming odds they are resisting the Russian onslaught well. But absent of more help from the outside, they likely will fall. Hopefully Putin's threats and preparatory actions leading up to him using nuclear weapons are only bravado without actual intent to use.
I remember in high school we were idiots with a copy of the "Anarchist Cookbook" and tried making napalm out of styrofoam and gasoline. There is still a black scorched mark in my parent's backyard to show how effective that thing was lol. Now I see crowds of Ukrainians huddled in subways crushing styrofoam to make napalm not because they were idiot high school students but to defend their country. That just freeging blows my mind man.
And the Russian protestors ... wow. Knowing you will be detained by a police state run by a psychopath but going out to let the world know not all Russians support Putin is no less brave in my view.
I certainly don't know if I could ever live up that kind of bravery.

A small group of determined people, with support, can hold off the entire military might of a large nation- just look at Vietnam & Afghanistan.
I also feel bad for the Russian people. They are going to suffer for the choices of their government. I hope that people can make the distinction between and separate the two. I’m afraid for a repeat of hate crimes against Muslims (and anyone with brown skin) after 9/11, or as a more extreme example, Japanese internment camps after they bombed Pearl Harbor. There is a big difference in those two examples in that they were following attacks on the US, however, they still illustrate the “us vs. them” mentality that I’m afraid of.
I try not to let politics get entangled with my hobbies (although in this case that is difficult- Russia has been the main source of NOS audio tubes), so after this brief statement I’m going to step away from this discussion:
I sincerely hope that the Ukrainian people can hold back Russia. I also sincerely hope for minimal suffering on both sides. If you choose to boycott Russian products, do it selectively- boycotting products from a small independent vendor is not going to hurt Putin, it will just cause that small vendor to hurt. If you want to help the people of Ukraine, do it in a manner that helps. My significant other is a cross stitcher- they are a tight knit community like us. They asked for people to buy patterns from Ukrainian designers- that resulted in at least one designer being able to stock up on canned goods for their family and neighbors. They also have designers who created charity charts with the purchase price going to organizations in Ukraine helping on the ground- including organizations helping the pets injured or left behind, or otherwise abandoned. The important thing is to help where you can and not be overwhelmed by the feeling that there’s nothing you can do. If you want to help, there are lots of ways to help. Directing anger toward regular people isn’t going to help anyone.
Edit- I’m not saying that anyone here is directing anger towards regular people, I just don’t want that to happen.
Dangerous operations.

Quote:LastLast week, Ukraine accused DJI — the world’s leading drone maker — of letting Russia target innocent civilians with missiles using DJI drone technology. “Are you sure you want to be a partner in these murders?” tweeted Ukraine Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov last Wednesday. “Block your products that are helping Russia to kill the Ukrainians!”
Unfortunately the war with Russia continues in the Ukraine. And we all know the Ukrainians are using several different types of drones in their effort against Russia. I saw this video on of my military sites I follow and though there might be some interest here since it hits home a little with this group.
The video alleges the drone that drops the mortar on Russian troops is a modified DJI Mavic 3. I would like to see the mods to the Mavic. You do see the mortar being moved in and out of the video frame prior to the drop.
I betting some FAA dude with coke bottom glasses is sweating this one in a basement in DC, and new regs are just around the corner for us hobbyists.
WARNING: At the end of the video, when the smoke clears you see dead or severely injured Russian soldiers. If this is ruled to be too extreme for this page, take it down.

It's fair play. They invaded someone elses country and shit happens in war. I think the tank ambush video was way worse in terms of violence and death.
This video was interesting in that they took a drone and militarised it. But in the grand scheme of things, is it any different to WW1 biplane pilots dropping grenades as they flew over enemy trenches. The only real difference I see is the pilot is no longer in the aircraft. The outcome is the same.
This video seems to show that just launching a drone is kind of risky and is likely to end with you getting shelled.
