SpeedyBee F405 V3 and HDZero Freestyle VTX
#1
I'm SO tired of wrestling this combo!

Current Status

Quad is flying OK

Video picture image is working OK (original camera was no output)

It all works EXCEPT there is No OSD in video into Emax Transporter2 screen OR HDZero Goggles.

Yes, the OSD bar in Config is correct.

I have tried Auto, PAL, NTSC and HD. Tried splattering the screen with display line options to see "something" in frame.

I have reflashed the latest stable Betaflight release with OSD and HD OSD included (which appeared to be its default)

Huh

Could I get a diff all and maybe a picture of your wiring? I've rigged a couple of quads with HDZero before.

High Five

Dump attached.

Wiring is Freestyle plug lead as supplied, Battery plus/Battery Gnd/Tx to Rx/Rx to Tx (UART1 MSP). Last wire (blue) is SA from VTX to FC VTX terminal (same result with or without this connection)

Remember, video image works perfectly, just no OSD.

Check/try the below instructions I pulled form Oscar's website... Here's the link if you want to read more. Just had the same issue with my DJI goggles and this was the fix.

Betaflight 4.3 / 4.28
Requirements:
  • Update your VRX/VTX to the latest firmware

  • Connect TX and RX pads on VTX to a spare UART on the FC

  • Enable MSP for that UART in the Ports tab in Betaflight

  • In the Configuration tab, enable OSD and Telemetry features
In CLI, enable MSP Display Port by entering:
set osd_displayport_device = MSP [enter]
set displayport_msp_serial = YOUR_UART_PORT_NUMBER - 1 [enter]
save [enter]
For example, if you are using UART2, displayport_msp_serial should be 1.
The OSD layout looks exactly the same as analogue, and you can move the elements around the same way too in Betaflight. Unlike DJI, all the elements are supported in HDZero.

Spread out by limited access to time needed and equipment issues, but I have.............

Put latest Betaflight stable release on the FC and set up completely by hand, no file loads.

Put latest firmware in Goggles and VTX (and other VTX units inc Transporter2 screen).

Now have OSD although its not yet got elements positioned matching the screen resolution as I want, depsite trying most variations.

Foxeer CineWhoop 25 was the biggest pain as they gave no access to the Whoop update socket, AND got the frame dimensions wrong and it wasn't easy as it should have been as the bottom plate access hole was smaller than the VTX PCB. In the end managed to get it out without breaking it, but had to dremel the frame to get it back in.

Then the Transporter screen was giving a triple OSD image and only partly wiping the boot logo.

Anyway, back to the Freestyle VTX, I have had to use two UART, one to get the VTX working image and another for Smart Audio. That caught me out as not like analog or DJI, and IMO was very badly explained by Divimath.

I've also experienced that some OSD elements are a little off, but I usually plug an HDMI cable into a monitor and shuffle it around in real time until it's right. As for Smartaudio, do you actually need it? Almost all functions can be accessed without it, but with a different stick command.
