SOLVED: questions on INAV
#1
This is is my first INAV project and I have some questions.

But first a little background. I have a new 5" build with Kakute F7 v1.5 with Tekko32 4n1 ESC. It came with BF 4.0. I set it up in BF and everything worked although I did not put it in the air. I just wanted to make sure the hardware all worked.  And I ALSO REVERSED the motors in BLHeli and they reversed ok.  So I loaded INAV 2.3.3 and flashed the FC with 2.3.0 for Kakute F7 Nov 24 2019 (This is the target recommended by github). Radio is bound (R9MM) and functioning in Receivers page, arming switch is setup.

A 'status' check in CLI only show the CLI connected, no other issues

The pre-arming checks all show good but..... the motors will not spin. And yes, i toggled 'on' the motors switch.

I am getting a warning up on the 'LOG' screen in RED telling me that the mixer is not set.  In the
MIXER screen I started to do the 'default Load and Apply' button, when i did I got a WARNING box
that said if this is chosen all other mixer settings would be overwritten and there is not a 'undo' button.

So,  being cautious, decided to back away from that until i was sure that was the correct thing to do. I think getting the MIXER page set up
will solve all my problems but please read on:

my questions:

After checking all i could think of I Switched to INAV 2.3.1 and have exactly the same screens and the motors dont spin up.

My first question is about the mixer page.  The Quadx is showing the motor direction as normal, not reversed. And I do not see a checkbox for reversed motors.

1,   Do I need to go back into BLHeli and reverse the motors again so the reversed rotation will be recognized by INAV?

A commenter on github that said to reverse the motors set the yaw to -1.  I tried that

but when I hit 'Load Mixer' the data was changed to this

2. How can I reverse the motor direction in INAV?

Now another question pertaining to the motors. On the motors (output) tab I wanted to test the individual direction of each motor but there are no sliders to test with

3.  I am assuming that I need to add some changes to get the sliders to appear...?

Next question is on the Presets.

4.  When/IF i choose a Preset, can I go back and change any  individual Preset setting(s)  if I happen to not like that setting?  I know this sounds dumb but I just want to be sure.

Thanks for the help

Issue solved

In the Mixer page, Mixer Preset, choosing 'Load and apply' solved 2 of the problems.  (there will be a warning)
1    Motors started spinning in NORMAL direction even though they were reversed in BLHeli???

         2.   The motor sliders in the output tab are now there.

         3.   More changes in the  MIXER page and the motors are now reversed.
After getting the motors spinning I went to the Mixer page and changed the Motor Mixer yaw settings which were -1,1,1,-1 (Motors 1,2,3,4) to 1,-1,-1,1 (Motors 1,2,3,4) and they are now reversed from their normal direction.
To get it to save the settings: i first changed the Yaw setting and then "save and reboot". I tried the "load setting' tab but that didnt save or load the settings

I havent did a test flight yet but at least there is progress.

         4. Regarding the Presets, MY BAD, I did not read the fine print about the setting

So I am moving on to complete the Inav setup and hope to get a test hover soon, weather permitting.

Yes, everything was solved as shown in post #2.
BUT, while testing/setting up INAV i had issues with hardware (i had 2 different brands GPS units fail on 2 different quads. what is the chance of that happening?) so I am not currently using INAV on my quads. I have setup GPS multiple times with BF and have been using it on my quads every flight. Everything was wired properly with the correct voltages, i dont know why they failed???

But to solve my issues in INAV:

1. I chose a 'preset', then save/reboot which opened the motor slides to test each motor independently but they still were not reversed. It is recommended to use 5" racer preset. You can change it later if you want.

2. Next, on the motor mixer page Looking down the Yaw column, I changed the Motor Mixer yaw settings only which by default were:
Motor 1= -1,  Motor 2 = 1, Motor 3 = 1, Motor 4 = -1  and reset them to Motor 1= 1, Motor2 = -1, Motor 3= -1, Motor 4 = 1 then "save and reboot".
NOTE: after i did a save and reboot, INAV added other changes on the Motor table.
I DID NOT USE LOAD AND APPLY because it would not save the changes for me.
After the reboot, the motors had reversed so i did not make any other changes for the motors.

I was able to do a few test flights until the GPS units failed and I went re-flashed back to BF.  I now have both quads set up with new GPS units using BF and i am ready for warmer/drier weather to test. After i confirm that BF and the GPS units are working I am going to reflash back to INAV and try again.

I live in WV and it has been a cold wet spring so far. Hopefully, I can get out in a few weeks.

Roger thanks very much for all the above. To be honest I'm so dissapointed with INAV so I think I will switch back to BF. I got two Long Range quads. They both has the Ifligh Succex F7 Dual Gyro. I have my PIDS, filters, rates, all setup very well and they both fly great. I wanted to test INAV as a friend told me it is very good for Long range. So I took one of my quads to test it..then here is when I start having nightmares! So complicated to setup the whole thing. I first applied the 7' preset as my quad is a 6'. It was flying ok but when doing a roll it went straight to the ground!. It has a lack of Power, there is no push when roll or flips. I tried again with 5" presets..fly and crashed again..this time something happened to the FC that doesn't respond. So this silly INAV already costed me one FC?. So I'm afraid to go and try again. ? Wish there could be more support and more information about it. Such as Joshua Bardwell with BF.

If you make your quad fly properly then man I will appreciate if you could guide me with it. Thanks very much man!

If you are interested, the following link is a site for Pawel S. who is one of the devs for INAV        https://quadmeup.com/
He has many vids, most of which are for INAV.
It might give you some insight.
INAV will and does work quite well as i see many posts and vids on other sites from people using INAV. However, for me
it has not been very easy. But when I first started Cleanflight/BF was difficult but i finally became comfortable with it and I am
sure if i spend enough time i will eventually get INAV working properly...I need to be persitent and patient
I hope to get INAV working this summer..
