I picked up 2 of these 6 ft wide by 4 ft tall popup soccer gates ... https://www.amazon.com/Athletic-Works-6-...B07RH99Y6P I lucked out and found a guy on ebay that sold me 2 brand news ones fedexed for $25 lol. I just finished putting them together and cutting out the netting. As far as I can tell, it seems to look pretty good!! It is a pain to put away and bending the plastic rods and hearing them screach is excruciating lol but they do put away neatly into that little bag. They are a lot bigger than I had envisioned though. Probably good for a noob racer like me. Can't wait to try these out!!! I followed this guide and built one over the weekend. Except I did 2 cubes connected so I can lay it horizontal for side by side or vertical for 2 stacked cube. It’s a good trainer for the yard. https://www.flitetest.com/articles/diy-1...0mm-racers Good idea on the soccer goal though. I had checked out that and other DIYs using PVC and pool noodles. I really like the simplicity and affordability but I don't like the storage. The soccer goal thing was from a Nurk video. He was showing these 4 foot tall ones but they were super pricey. But they look much more durable than the one I have and quicker to put up and down. These cheapy ones I bought scare me I feel like they are going to snap open and slice my head off lol. Still they work and now looking for 2 more. [edit] found it ... they are fancy popup gates ... • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 23-Sep-2020, 12:51 AM (This post was last modified: 23-Sep-2020, 12:52 AM by voodoo614.) You can make gates for $5. All you need is rebar cut down to length (10-12 inches) and hone sharp on one end. Pound the rebar onto the ground space apart to the desired width for the gates. Leave 4-5 inches above the ground. Take the PVC pipe and bend it over the rebar. PVC pipe will bend without breaking. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 I hear ya. But the convenience dude ... That's two 6x4 foot gates lol!! • Posts: 44 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 3 in 3 posts Likes Given: 20 Joined: Jul 2020 Reputation: 0 3/4" PVC U shape, top piece friction fit, placed over rebar. • Posts: 44 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 3 in 3 posts Likes Given: 20 Joined: Jul 2020 Reputation: 0 (23-Sep-2020, 12:51 AM)voodoo614 Wrote: You can make gates for $5. It's lighter and less expensive than PVC. I like your idea about using rebar stakes. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 23-Sep-2020, 05:44 PM (This post was last modified: 23-Sep-2020, 05:45 PM by the.ronin.) So yea ... not that easy LOL. I was thinking these humongous gates would be a breeze with my little 5 incher racer. Not so much LOL. One time I smacked into one so hard it took the pole out of the holder LOL. I am focusing REAL hard to hit these things. At first I had them set up on turns ... yea no dice. So had them back to back on a straight away ... still hard!! LOL. So much fun though!!!! As for these popup soccer goalies in particular, so far they have not snapped on my and sliced my head off. Everything is so flimsy feeling though down to the zipper on the storage bag (which is critical since the storage bag acts to keep everything from snapping undone - and slicing your head off) that I'm not sure how long these will last lol. We shall see. Def can take a beating from a drunken 5 incher race drone though that's for sure LOL. We use them and make 2 gates from each along with a little bit of steel rod. Hammer 2 steel rods into the ground, thread some cut up tent material onto the tent poles, bend tent poles and slip onto the rod in the ground... Pretty easy and $5 each Posts: 7 Threads: 0 Likes Received: 2 in 2 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Dec 2019 Reputation: 0 We destroyed five tent style gates at my club field this year. They just can’t stand up to the abuse inflicted by a quad. We are moving to 3/4” pvc pipe gates stick into the ground with rebar. Way more durable. The pvc and bear is cheap, but we are looking at fabric covers.
