Smallest quad for 2205 motors
#1
I have a tonne of 2205 2500kv motors and 4s batteries which I will probably never use again on my 5" quads as I have moved up to 2306 on 5s.

Can these be put on something like an ultra light 4" quad or even better 3" quad?

I'm running 2207 motors on a 4" Xilo Phreak frame. I think the only problem you will run into on a three inch frame is the mounting holes.

2205 2500kv go really nice on a toothpick style 5" frame, even a TBS Source 2.

They really really rip because of the weight. Go for a real light FC/cam setup and it gets even better.

They are on a Source 2 atm and I don't like flying it as it is such a slug compared with my other 5" which has the bigger motors.

I didn't even consider the motor mounting hole size as wllmlutz mentioned but they fit on the TBS Podracer which is only 47grams.

Any other suggestions on a really light toothpick frame which will fit these motors?

kababs powerpick frame, 4" or 5"

3inch wont work nice as it would need high rpms eveen to liftoff. 2500kv is low but it could work on 4inch, i got okish results on 2205 and 2600kv in the past.

Thanks for all the replies. I have given up on a small 3 or 4 inch quad as I definitely don't want to buy anymore motors as I have 12 of the things just sitting there doing nothing so have decided to buy the TBS Podracer and build it as light as I can 5".

Now I have a 3D printer I could also make a bare minimum canopy for it to save on weight. Who knows. Lets see where this thing ends up.

I'll probably also chuck a gps on it and also find some low pitched props or even bi blades and see how long I can get it to stay in the air.

Why not use them to make something different??

An air boat, an RC plane, a weird hub motored rc car... And you can 3D print most of the parts!

Look to places like RCLifeOn on youtube.. and there's another guy that's been doing hydrofoiling rc airboats that are neat.

i wasnt impressed by the durability of the podracer 4", the 5" has the same arms, should be even worse. i had a lightweight settup, it should be more rigid.
even strange broken, delaminated... the canopy isnt rigid aswell, its even a mistake by put the canopy on a thin topplate if ther would youst be another design needed attached on the arm screws (the powerpick doesnt have this stupid design fault) there wasnt any canopy design for the podracer on thingiverse back than..

as your 2205 should be about 30g?
i would suggest to choose the powerpick, i didnt try it but its visable more toughtfull.
very sad the podracer is toughtless Poop in my eyes

Getting close to pulling the trigger on this. I so need another basher 5" quad as my beast is not suitable with GPS rescue enabled to fly in most of the places I go to and I am sick of going out for a fly, having a crash and coming home with charged batteries. I went flying 3 times yesterday and twice came home with charged batteries. Sort of annoying but fun if that makes sense.

Still undecided on the frame so I reckon just to get something in the air I will just use my old Tyro 109 frame. It is pretty heavy at about 110grams including aerial but good enough for now until I figure what I want.

Current issue which I would love some opinions on is deciding on the fc/esc combo I get and if my logic is correct and that the AIO's would do the job and not explode immediately.

What I am really liking the idea of is the AIO fc/esc such as the Diatone Mamba F411 AIO 25A or Holybro Kakute F4 AIO V2 which is 30a? but am having trouble figuring out if they are going to be able to handle the current well enough or they will explode on the first few flights. I will not be going for a speed test on this quad and the only time it would get full throttle is an attempt recovery before slamming into the ground or tree.

This is about the closest I can find to what the ZMC setup would be is which is saying about 18amps at 75% which is about 99.99% of the time the max I go to.

The motors I have 5 spare of each are

ZMC fusion x25 2205 2300kv or
Eachine Tyro109 2206 2400kv

Props are Dalprop Cyclone T5047C.
