Runcam 5 Orange
#31
First side-by-side footage comparison of the RunCam 5 black versus the orange below by Gal Kremer.

The colours on the orange look way too washed out IMO, and the EIS on the orange seems to be struggling a bit too.

Interesting.

I assumed he was using the new 'flat' colour profile on the Orange, but it looks like he wasn't. I guess the saturation on the Orange was truer to life, and allows for easier colour grading if that's your thing, but it won't look as pretty out-of-the-box.

The ground is for dead people.

Typical. I decide to buy a RunCam five for a build I’m about to start and then they bring out a new one only a week later. I’m not that bothered to be honest. That’s the way things seem to go in this hobby it might be current today but tomorrow it’s out of date. Typical. I'm too lazy to even put video edits together most of the time and I've never bothered with any colour grading. Too much extra hassle. So out-of-the-box suits me better and the black RunCam 5 is clearly the winner on that front Smile

I received mine, but have not tested it properly yet. Somehow I cannot find config file (yes, I have 'show hidden files' turned on).  I was hoping to select SV resolutions via editing config file.

Won't be getting mine until at least tomorrow. Stupid federal holiday....

I'll be working today though.

Watch Gal Kremer's video in post #31 and see what you like best because he uses the camera with it switched both on and off. The EIS does seem to struggle a bit trying to cope. You can see it by way of micro vibrations (jello-like effect) in parts of the footage. Maybe they will fix that in a future firmware update.

I know I also posted this in the Orca thread, but some people might only be following this thread, or vice versa. So no apologies for posting the same information in multiple threads Big Grin

Honestly, that all look like good cameras.

But the white balance on the Orca is all over the place! Hopefully you can set it to something other than 'auto', because that would be a pain to fix in post. The Orange needs a lot more saturation, to my eyes, but at least it's consistent.

For those who don't like the orange colour case of the RunCam 5 Orange, RunCam have just released a black edition of the RunCam 5 Orange which is still has "Orange" in it's name even though it's black Big Grin Unlike the Original RunCam 5 Black, this new black edition of the RunCam 5 Orange has all of same specifications of the Orange version including the gyro hardware for stabilising the footage in post.

I've ejected both my Black (original) Runcam 5 and my Orange, and I've gotta say when I'm thrashing around in the undergrowth I'd take the orange Orange every day of the week.

Also my quad looks like a clown already (yellow and green props, blue motors, red camera, orange zip ties) so having a sophisticated action camera is hardly worth the effort ;-)

Camera: Runcam 5 Orange
One thing I never quite understood, if the rate was the same, would a lower resolution image have a higher quality? And in the following case, where does the fps change?Which setting (4K@30fps or 2.7K@60fps) provides the best image quality as the bitrate of 60Mbps is the same for both resolutions?
