roninUAV Sohei Mk2
#1
Even though this is really nothing more than a shrunken down version of the Ronin Mk2, there's something about it I really like.  The Sohei class is the 3 inch basher.

The Sohei were Buddhist warrior monks ...

Going forward, I think I'll go with 15XX motors for 4 inch and stick to 14XX motors for 3 inch.  In both cases, a 700mAh lipo.

These are the Xing 1404s.  Little speed demons these guys.

I'm not sure why I'm not opting for the full size Immortal T since I do have room and weight to spare but I'm sticking to these Mini ones for now.

Going with Shark Byte again on this one.  Sticking to the $50 whoop VTX since it just works.

On all my SB builds, I'm using the Foxeer Digisght V2 nano camera.  If it ever comes out, they'll all be replaced with the Runcam HDZero micro.

The Xilo VTX antenna might be a little big for this 3 incher but was hoping for some color coordination lol.

My builds have so much weight that can be shed lol.  But I figure if I force myself to use non-essentials like landing skids and LEDs, then that just leaves more buffer for a sub250 build in case you don't want those.

Yea.  This thing just looks like a little pocket rocket LOL.   Big Grin

You can see how it compares to the 4" Ronin Mk2 ...

Sub220 ftmfw!!   ROFL Thumbs Up

3” is just about perfect for me- and those non-essentials are typically a part of my builds. One of these days I’m gonna hafta buy one of your frames.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

I know I keep teasing this frame but I am aiming to finally get the production run going this week so ETA 2 weeks (LOL I can't believe I just said that for those of you that are also active in the HDZero community).  Anyway, there actually have been no changes to this frame, but changes to the Ronin Mk2 has taken up a lot of resources hence the delay.

In the meantime, wanted to share this money shot my wife took while I was having some Sunday morning fun with this little ripper.  6 min to 3.8v on a 700mAh 4S lol wow.

That’s a nice lightweight quad.
Any plans of 3.5in arms for the ronin MK2 or the Sohei?

It really is and I didn't hold back on the carbon fiber. It's basically the same thickness all around to the Ronin but shrunken down so its super beefy.

For now though, I don't have plans to "officially" release 3.5" arms ... but since I'm not some "official" bureaucratic company, I can pretty much do whatever I want lol. If you or anyone else wants some sort of special part, I can include that in my next order. It will be a couple bucks more though cos I would only have a few cut so I don't get a quantity discount.

Put me on the list for 3.5 inch arms. If you get enough requests and decide to cut them, I want 2 full sets.
Don't do it just for me, but if others want them and you do make them, count me in.

Roger that! Let me get this first production batch out with the current design. After that, I'll take some custom orders. Sorry thats going to be a while but I just want to release the frame first before taking custom parts orders. I hope that's ok.

Just got back the invoice and hoping production starts today. Aiming to do 2 small batches rather than 1 big batch but for both the Shinobi and Sohei and also a restock of the Ronin. Not gonna lie super excited for this Mk2 line. Big Grin

Aside from minor revisions which even that I don't really foresee, I have no plans currently for an Mk3 line anytime soon. At least not how I released Mk2 relatively quickly after Mk1 - that's why I issued everyone big discounts who bought the Mk1 because I felt bad about that.

Expecting to drop this in 1 week.  But been flying it a lot to try and dial in some better settings on the Digisight v2's.

Behold ... my Sohei Mk2 "Hellboy Edition" Big Grin

I upped the motors from 1404 3800KV to 1407 4130KV.  Yay for Black Friday lolll  Thumbs Up

Still clocking in well under 250 with a 700mAh 4S ...

These "StanFPV" branded TMotors are super super notchy.  Like it makes Xing motors feel like butter lol.  Oh and I also slapped some 3x3x3 HQProps cos hey why not up the pitch too LOL.   ROFL

At least your quad does not need an angle grinder to grid off the horns.

Thanks iFly.  So it turns out "starlight" does not mean "Splinter Cell night vision goggles" like I was hoping lol.  If I didn't know that park like the back of my hand, I would've been stuck up in a tree in the first 5 seconds.  Half that time I was flying completely blind!

Also find it funny that YouTube took down this video on a copyright claim (not strike) yet at least for now I can still view it here as well as other places I posted it as a link lol wtf?! ROFL

I mean really?  Lost Boys theme song??  Cmon now lol. Good thing I never use copyright music on my videos ... Whistling

What copyright claims on YouTube videos generally mean (where it's not an outright copyright block resulting in a strike) is that if those particular videos are monetised either now or ever in the future, then you will no longer get the money for any views on them. The copyright holder will get any revenue instead. This is why the videos are still watchable and not completely blocked.
