Replacing Runcam Micro Eagle housing
#1
I really like my Runcam Micro Eagle 2 camera.
But some time ago I crashed (hit a tree head on at higher speed) and broke the housing.
At home I was able to glue it back together but for sure it lost it's original strenght.
After some more crashes I found that the camera was out of focus.

It's not the cheapest camera so I thought about replacing the housing and searched the net but could't find one.
So I contacted Runcam and they offered to send me one for free if I was ordering some other components.
If I wasn't ordering other components then they would send me one and I had to pay the $8,- shipping.
Now that's what I call a very good customer service! (I must say that I have had similar good support from Caddx recently).

The only 'problem' that Runcam support pointed out is that the housing is attached to the sensor board using black glue.

So today I replaced the housing.
1) First I removed the old housing.
I tried heating it up to get the black glue soft but that didn't work.
So I used a side cutter and gently broke the old housing from the sensor board.
Carefully as to not damage the image sensor.

Although the black glue was hard and covering small smd components it came off with little damaging the sensor board.

Only when creating this post was it that I noticed that a small SMD capacitor is missing.
It's impossible for me to solder it on and the camera seems to work OK.

2) I then fitted the new housing.
Before applying my own glue I checked the image to see if the camera was still working and if it was in focus.

3) I finally used E6000 to fill the gap between the sensor board and the new housing.
Similar to how the black glue was applied.

Needless to say that I'm happy with the result and very happy with the support of Runcam.

Do you think that with a little heat the old glue would come off?

I tried it but the glue stayed hard. Maybe it can work if you have a heat source for which you could control the temperature.
