Repairing FlySky X14S
#1
I have TONS of work and crazy deadline - so naturally I spent hours trying to fix my 3" drone.

I bought 2x Flysky X14S. Second one is ok.

The first one, the 12Mhz oscillator fell off. After I ordered new 12Mhz crystal and replaced it, receiver worked - but only sometimes when very cold.

Drone would twitch, delayed response to RC, and randomly fall/failsafe. But if left outside in cold long time, sometimes worked perfectly 500m+ for 15min+.

I contacted Flysky support about this before.

So, I used 380C hot air on low fan, and flux to try to fix cold solder joints. I slowly heated board, and slowly went over the board reflowing it.

But, a few SMD detached and blew off !! - the ones marked with green arrow.

It was VERY DIFFICULT to try to put them back. The pads were dry - no solder. I added solder.

A & B.
Prettry sure capacitor metal end broke off. What is the values??

C
Im not sure orientation of this green one - its supposed to have black stripe.

Now.
Receiver powers on, but green LED flashing like its doing binding. FC doesnt see any signal.

Please advise.

It will be difficult for anyone to answer your inquiry. Someone with the same receiver has to remove each component just to measure them.

I sent the same photo to Flysky.

Really.. FlySky QC sucks. The 2nd one I have clearly has 200% more solder.
They owe me a new receiver.

And ideally a telemetry one.. FS X14S has few redeamable qualities.

I know it sucks but for the cost of a replacement receiver it's probably not worth the hassle and effort of trying to fix if it is more than just a few replacement components needed because even after doing that there is still no guarantee it will work, or reliably. They're only $14 on AliExpress. Alternatively, just cut your losses and get something different if the QC isn't up to standard.

Sadly,
lots of things break or arrive dead in this hobby

I feel like a heroin den junkie.. seeking that fleeting week of bliss when ALL things just work.

But, that will never happen. The gap between branches. The chains on playground swing. That invisible phone line. Crash.. crash a lot.. something will break.

Instead of scratched knees, and bleeding elbows trying to do skateboard trick, we have only $$$ frustration.
