Red Cat Announces Letter of Intent to Acquire Rotor Riot
#1
https://www.globenewswire.com/news-relea...-Riot.html

I know, right? "Who"?

Quote:Technology to Make Drones Trackable, Accountable, and the Skies a Safer Place

Drone pilots, regulators and insurance companies need solutions that make drones trackable and accountable. Red Cat is the leading provider of distributed data storage, analytics and services for the growing recreational and commercial drone industry.

Something to do with crowd-sourcing blackbox logs?

Honestly, looks like complete VC-bait. Their site has no detail at all. Their CEO is a 'serial entrepreneur'. The vague blurb about their business reads like a pump-and-dump startup bingo card. They have block-chain! Analytics! The cloud! Data science! But no products or services that anyone can see, because that stuff is over-rated. Didn't you see all the buzzwords?!

I guess we all knew that RR was in trouble, but how much trouble do you have to be in to be sold off to a company that has no revenue?

The ground is for dead people.

I guess you saw all the suspicious stuff around Red Cat last year? You just need to read all the comments under the videos to see how dodgy that company is envisaged to be.

And sections of the following videos also feature the shady RedCat CEO...

Yeah, I saw the interview when it first came out and was cynical at the time.

I can't remember if it ever said what their revenue stream is, but that will be the kicker. I guess the insurance companies? Whose business model is to have people make a bet they hope they never 'win', and then try your hardest to not pay them if they do. Well gee, I'm sure your blackbox data will never be used to that effect. And they're also hooking up with regulators? Who have the power to demand you have insurance to fly? Will anyone else be able to provide Redcat's service? Because if not it sure seems like a way to lobby for regulation that funnel money from pilots to insurance companies to Redcat, by ensuring the insurance companies never have to pay out.

Seems like a lot of vested interests here, and pilots are the only ones in the boat without a paddle. Again.

The ground is for dead people.

I don't think that these guys are sitting in Puerto Rico twirling their mustaches and plotting the murder of our hobby. I think they're businessmen, and their business isn't with us, because we're not paying for it. Even if they begin with the best of intentions, the spice must flow.

That whole non-sequittur about the flight controller is already common knowledge. It's on their own website. They had to put a crazy-powerful processor on it so they have the grunt to encrypt blackbox logs on-the-fly on the FC. A feature which no-one asked for. Unless it gets forced into legislation, of course.

The ground is for dead people.

Yes, and the other puzzling thing here is that RedCat (or at least the CEO) is apparently part of the FPV Freedom Coalition movement. Unless I'm being a complete dumb-ass and don't understand what that movement stands for, surely RedCat's business model is in complete conflict with anything "freedom" related Huh

The CEO of RedCat is one of the board members for the FPVFC.  So basically the board has been giving advice to the "employees" aka volunteers of the FPVFC a few times in the last year.  At one point he promised to donate a good sum of money to the FPVFC once RedCat made their funding goal.  Then the whole reverse merger happened with another company and now I'm not sure where that all stands.

I also find it interesting that the press release mentions Chad Kapper as the "CEO and founder of Rotor Riot and president of the FPV Freedom Coalition"  when in fact Chad is the CEO and Board Chair of the FPVFC https://fpvfc.org/chad-kapper
