Receiver and tx mounting
#1
When mounting the reciever and video transmitter is it alright to have these components touching the frame? If not can I use foam mounting pads?

Both components must be insulated from the frame as carbon fibre conducts electricity.

So, if they are not covered in shrink wrap, they should be. I wouldn't risk only putting them on foam pads as you never know what will happen in a crash.

Gently.

Small circuit boards tend to be thin. If you tie them down too hard, you'll bend the circuit board. If you put too much stress on things like little ceramic capacitors, they tend to fracture and turn into a short circuit.

I wrap them in shrink and then zip tie them down.  I try to keep a little distance between the two, like mounting the VTX below and the RX above the top plate.  Also, I try to keep the zip just tight enough to hold the components in place without squeezing them.  This is a bit of an art form really Smile

I heatshrink mine and use double sided tape to secure it to the frame (Same with ESCs) using 3M Clear Heavy Duty Mounting Tape. Its a soft, almost gel, tape. Bonds with both surfaces really well, and I don't have to worry about zipties.

That tape is really sticky! I have some unbranded version of that and once something is stuck down with it, it's not going anywhere.

I can see heat shrinking the Reciever.  But if I do it to the video transmitter how would I change the levels on it?

On my TBS Unify Pro, the heat-shrink is clear and the button can easily be pressed through the shrink.  The other VTX's I have all have the button on the side where they are not really hindered too much by any shorting protection.  Get clear shrink and you can see through it for the display of the lights and such.

I also used clear shrink. No issues pressing the button.

TBS Smartaudio - you can control and change settings of your Unify Pro with your transmitter

Im guessing that is what the T connection on the tx is for then.  Is this something I can do with a flysky receiver like the flysky fs i6s?

You do it through the OSD, so it doesn't matter what radio and receiver you have. The telemetry wire from the VTX connects to a UART on the flight controller. Then you use the sticks on the radio to activate the OSD and navigate the menu. One of the entries allows you to set the band, channel and power of a compatible VTX.
