Radiomaster TX16S Damaged
#16
In this day and age I’m real surprised the radio is not protected for backwards batteries! Does anyone know if the Frsky Horus series have protection. It’s odd to me that manufactures went back to battery trays as before they didn’t like them cause they could loose contact. Flat top batteries are notoriously easy to put in backwards!

After waiting for the IC to be delivered, i have replaced it and now it works like new! So if anyone has the same problem, try to replace the IC first before buying a new board. Hope this helps.

Also, here are places where you can find the chip. They usually only sell 5+ tho.

Thanks a lot! Had same problem. Replacing CS5080E fixed it all.

If everything else fails, a brand new motherboard is AUD $100.. Not the end of the world..  Wink

If you want to get back to flying and have some loose change in your pocket, get a new mother board for $75. It could be a time saver.

My suggestion is that there is probably some kind of short somewhere on the audio circuit of the mainboard causing that behaviour.

I assume when you say you "managed to replace the chip" that you have replaced the CS5080E DC-to-DC Charge Management chip discussed in this thread. Is that correct?

The first thing to do is to use a magnifying glass to check for any stray solder balls, splatters of solder, or stray whiskers of wire on the boards that might be causing a short. If there aren't any then you likely have another damaged component somewhere on the audio section of the circuit that is causing a short only when an audio signal is passed through the speaker.

There’s a repair shop on YouTube called “north ridge fix” and he shows time and time again how to identify a short on SMD components. He does everything without looking at any schematic diagrams. Good stuff to watch and learn from. Good luck!
