Questions on frames swaps and tuning etc
#1
Hi - I'm switching frames from the Lumenier QAV R2 to the Johnny FPV frame. I thought it would be a pretty simple switch- but I did need to shorten the motor wires on the back of the quad and lengthen them on the front. I'm new to soldering- but it seemed to go well enough. Everything seemed connect, yet embarrassing to share photos. I've done some other soldering successfully so I'm confident it's adequate.

In Betaflight everything seems fine and the motors all appear to be working, but when I go to do a test flight something is not right. It's acting like the troops are on backwards. I've checked the direction and all seems fine.

I've only been in BLHeli once and when I attempted to connect I get a blank screen.

So a couple questions-

Do I need to flash the firmware and then do the CLI all over again since the motors were cut and re-installed? What could I be doing wrong in BL Heli for it to be blank?

Thanks for the help!!

You have a battery connected while using BLHeli, right? You need it to power the ESCs and read/flash them.

If you possibly mixed up the wires while resoldering then it could swap the direction of the motors. Check them in the BF motors tab and use BLHeli to swap them if needed.

You don't need to flash esc unless you want to new features.

Thanks. I went back through and it turned out one if the motors was going the wrong direction. I was not able to get BLHeli to work properly so I swapped wires.

I then ended up flashing the firmware and refreshed the CLI from my back-up. It’s all working now but still can’t get blheli to open properly.

I just did a frame swap from a Chimera 5 LR to a QAV - Cine Freybot (i yanked the gps and used the StanFpv motors) I used the same exact method for BLHeli and had no issues.

I’m back up and running now. Thanks for chiming in!

Were you using BLHeli_32? you may need to use BLHeli_S for your ESC.
