Here are some options:
  1. Run wires under the arm so they can't be struck by the spinning prop blades.
  2. Use Racewire on the arms.
  3. Use the blades from an old prop and tape them over the top of the wires with electrical insulation tape.
  4. 3D print some more rugged protectors using TPU which won't shatter if a prop hits them or if you crash.

Racewire a good idea

I used to use plastic pieces from old props or water bottle, but it's so rare that I cut the motors wires, I just stop worrying now and use cloth tape these days: https://oscarliang.com/fpv-tools/#Cloth-Tape

Funny, when I first got into fpv, I read / saw people talking about “protecting moto wires”…using broken prop blades, 3d prints.. and “race wire”..
I bought into it for a bit and used “led race wire”.. i have smoked motors, flight controllers, ESCs , broken multiple frames and unknown number of props…but have YET, “cut a motor wire” on any of my quads..

I think it depends how aggressively you fly and if you have a hard crash upside down, but if you do that you probably have more expensive broken parts to worry about than a few sliced motor wires. Prop blades also seem to be stiffer these days so the chances of them flexing and hitting the wires are probably remote. Back when separate ESCs were used on the arms it was a thing to put TPU covers over the ESC boards to protect them from getting slashed up in a crash, but you don't really see those ESCs anymore.

I'm thinking of using BRAIDED MESH WIRE

I ran the wires on my original Crux35 on the bottom after cutting one in a tangle with a tree. In about the middle, one blade got bent down at around a 45. The bent blade cut through the cloth tape (that I added) and one of the motor wires. Usually the tips bend up though. Could'a been a fluke I guess. All my other quads just have the cloth tape or nothing... Oops, the mini apex came with custom molded wire protectors.

You can also use an armour plate tube and put the motor wires inside. They will never cut. However you need to figure out how much weight you will add. We design and build a flying vehicle by first setting a goal. Then we move towards the goal by making COMPROMISES. The trade off is weight versus protection amongst other things. If there is no compromise we can make a tank fly.

Yes, that's another option and it can add some nice colour to your quad. I used that method on my Acrobrat. See the link below...

Which reminds me, I STILL need to complete that unfinished build Big Grin I put it in a box partially built almost 3 years ago and had completely forgotten about it. Maybe it's time that I resurrect that build thread and commit to finally getting it finished.

Yup. I have 3 builds and many repairs waiting in line. I finally got my phantom 2.5 (smart25) repaired and converted to elrs. Only took me... 2-ish years? lol.
