From the last photo, the wiring looks correct.

the ground should be were i cut the sbus cable on the pigtail. So i had the ground to the sbus pad on the rx, then uninvert sbus to another UART on the FC


edit: now that i keep looking at it... that does look right, maybe the solder joint wasn't good enough on the uninverted sbus. all i know is prior to that exact attempt, i had been doing it backwards because when i resoldered the opposite, worked immediately. I think that pic i just got lucky that i flipped the pigtail cable, probably by mistake haha.
