New HD System from Fat Shark?
#16
Personally, I think it's going to be a rebranded DJI goggle with a fat shark shell on it just like Bardwell implied.

Funny you mention skyzone. I emailed them months ago to see if they were going to make digital goggles. To my surprise they replied. However, the answer was that they didn't have any plans currently.

Carl Zhou has confirmed that the new FatShark goggles aren't using HDZero technology...

That compact form factor is quite appealing if it does have Dji new oled panel and innards.

Would be a massive shift if DJI released their next gen tech entirely under the fatshark brand. I'd say I wouldn't see that happening, but I wouldn't have guessed they'd release the original system with support for Betaflight, or released the Air Unit lite under the Caddx name. Suffice it to say DJI is not predictable when it comes to FPV tech.

The whole US embargo issue I don't see as being the reason, since FPV is too small of a market warrant the brand subterfuge and leave the bread and butter money making mainstream tech under the DJI brand, especially since you still need to activate using DJI branded software.

Not gonna lie ... I always said since Day 1 that if the DJI goggles were more streamlined, I'd be far more interested. Hmmmm ...

If it’s just DJI internals, then this is a false statement:
“Fat Shark, an American-owned company, has designed and engineered a game-changing goggle”

Not saying it’s not dji internals. Just saying that they may get into trouble with the sec if it is dji internal bits.

Guess we’ll find out in a few hours.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

FS designed the goggles, so the statement is 100% true

The following post appeared on Facebook earlier. There is no real way of verifying if this person actually knows something or is just trolling, so read into it as you will.

Ian also posted some of his thoughts yesterday about the new FatShark Dominator goggles on his YouTube community page...

Mads Tech Wrote:Fat Shark Dominator - Some Further Thoughts.

First of all Dominator HD Digital Perhaps ?

Ok so it’s been a CRAZY few days and I have had sometime to digest things and thought I would share them with you fantastic people.

As Fat Shark have not told me anything because I am a nobody I am free to speculate as much as I want so let’s go?.

What Do We Know ?

Realty is very little other than a launch date and brand/product name and what’s shown in the images BUT.

Are they Digital and if so what system ?

There has been solid confirmation that this is not a HDZero based product from Fatshark and Its not Shark Byte or HDZero based. It is nether the HDZero goggle or any part of that system as is understood.

Have Fat Shark developed their own HD FPV System ?

Possible but not massively likely, we have seen how hard this is and anything new is going to take time and a lot of development, it’s certainly not impossible but it’s less likely than other scenarios. They do have Teal and a lot of engineering background but this would still be a major task to do imho.

So if it’s digital then what can it be ? DJI based Perhaps ?.

Personally I’m leaning on that being the case more than anything else if they are digital, it could be DJI P1 chipset used or even white labeled and not even mentioned that it’s DJI based at all.  There have been somethings circling for a while that CaddX may have something new that looked like DJI but with MSP DP or Canvas mode and updated OSD that was believed to possible be a new DJI system however would make more sense now to see that DJI partnership expand to more than just CaddX/ Runcam doing Airunits and see DJI move the whole system into the 3rd party market. If they wanted to get a larger stranglehold on FPV this would be the way to do it rather than just keep pushing systems them selves. Fat Shark remains the market leader in FPV goggles and it’s logical that putting DJI tech in that will help push the systems adoption further. I have also been reliably told the Vista has been Caddx best selling product ever. The deal has clearly been lucrative for them too.

A thought I have is this could be a “tweaked” white labeled DJI based system with the range limit extended, MSP DP OSD and some other little tweaks on the Ocusync system to improve things. We know DJI can do 17km on Ocusync on other systems so while it will have some challenges as know it’s possible.  It could actually be that V3 goggles or V2 system we have been talking about.

There are a number of real tell tail signs and none of this is beyond the realms of possibility when you really start to think about it more widely.  Especially when you look at the US side of things with compliance and legislation ect.  FPV for DJI is still tiny numbers but they won’t want to walk away from it.

So realty is it’s all still speculation and we will know more in just under 2 days.  If this is not just some analog goggles with quad receivers it’s going to be exciting to see what’s being done. If it’s digital I will 100% be getting one to investigate, discuss and review as I have with all the digital FPV systems. It’s been a core part of what I do on the channel and we will continue to do that moving forward.

I want to leave this one a final note and that is regardless of what this ends up being it does not mean any current systems are no longer relevant or that it’s bad for HDZero or anyone else.  For those who seen my interview with Carl he is super passionate about what he wants to do and I know we have some really great and exciting things to come from HDZero this year.  What we have is just the start. Carl has invested over 10 Million $ in the development of HDZero and that’s continuing at a repaid pace more than ever. More players in the market is good for users and we all want to see technology develop and move on. Fat Shark is a large part of FPV as is DJI and HDZero, there is plenty of room for them all.

A final warning,  as always looking at this on day one take care and don’t impulse buy. Look for what’s not said and not what is as it’s often in the gaps that have the really interesting bits you need to be aware of.

Thanks

Mad.

The final sentence is a really good advice, specially since HDZero and potentially Orca are launching their stuff this year too. (In reply to SnowLeopardFPV's post)

Is it just MY phone Screen? Or is the “HOURS” in that countdown washes out?

Me too. I could hardly see the number. It's by design.

This Rotor Riot video is currently unlisted. The OSD on the large monitor in the background at 0:35 looks like the DJI OSD to me, but the VTX in the back of the quad at 0:45 looks more like an HDZero style VTX. The 5-way DJI selector joystick is on the side you can't see in the original marketing image. So that coupled with the two same buttons as on the DJI FPV Goggles and the OSD means this must be a DJI system. I don't know what the deal is the the $49,999 price they show though LOL.
