New DJI System losing signal, from 20 feet away???
#1
So I was in the park this morning where I normally go to fly if I do not feel like traveling very far. I bought the new DJI system (Goggles 2, Controller 2, Air Unit 3) and was just flying around and all of the sudden my quad failsafe's and drops to the ground. At first I thought I got too close to the ground and crashed. I went to my quad and inspected it and flew some more. As I was flying I went to the same area and again it failsafed and dropped to the ground. So this time I got a fresh battery and slowly flew from where I sat to the area that I was having a problem with. Sure enough as I was hovering around in a couple different areas it failsafed and dropped to the ground. With this system I upgraded everything from my original DJI v1 stuff, Everything is new. Has anyone heard of localized interference like this???  The attached video show where I lose a signal and get the RX Lost in the goggles (BTW - I love how we can record OSD now).

The single antenna on the DJI O3 Air Unit is dual-band and it's believed that when you make use of the DJI Controller 2 that the goggles transmit and receive on the 5.8GHz band and the DJI Controller 2 transmits on the 2.4GHz frequency. The fact that you are getting no issues with the video signal means that the 5.8GHz link must be fine and that there may be some kind of issue with the 2.4GHz RC link.

The first thing I would check is that the two U.FL connectors are seated properly in their sockets on the O3 Air Unit mainboard. If in doubt, very carefully unplug and re-plug the connectors, and check the inside of the connectors and the sockets with a magnifying glass for any damage while they are unplugged. I'm not sure if it matters which U.FL connector from the antenna goes onto which U.FL socket on the O3 Air Unit mainboard but I would make sure the DJI logo on the antenna is the right way up before plugging in the left / right antenna connections as shown on the diagram below.

Can you show a screenshot of your receiver tab in Betaflight?

I'm confused by your video because RSSI dbm is at -130 the whole time, but your BF settings should be reporting it correctly (assuming the O3 AirUnit supports it). Also, the DJI stats at the bottom show full bars for both the video and control links, even when you get RX LOSS.  Huh

Check the antennas as Snow suggests. That's really bizarre behavior.

Were you using auto or manual channel selection?

Edit: After consulting with a few people knowledgeable with the O3 system, I have found out that link stats telemetry is not supported over the AirUnit SBUS so the RSSI dBm readings will not work, and that the random RC link loss at close range is a known issue when using manual channel selection. All the more reason to use a separate RC link instead of the DJI system IMO.

Hi donwie63

The RSSI dbm warning is not useful because DJI RC doesn't support it.

I have the same issue. I fly in a pretty remote area so the only interference is my wireless android auto. For me in only happens when I'm in manual chanal selection. On auto I don't get RX LOSS. And it's always straight ahead of me around 50-100m away. When I fly further away or to the side I don't have the issue.
Also the DJI RC signal bars still show pretty good signal (the same as on your video).

Have you already contacted DJI support?
If not it would be great if you could contact them and send them the logs. So this issue can be fixed.

What setup are you using? Stock DJI antenna or LHCP antennas (on the drone). i have the Iflight Evoque with LHCP antennas.

I bought a pre built iFlight Nazgul Evoque F5 V2 which is probable the same as your Evoque. I have not contacted DJI yet as I thought this was somehow my fault and not hardware related. I will put in a support ticket now. Thanks

Putting the Air Unit into Auto fixed it for me. Thanks for the info. Hopefully this can be fixed in a firmware update???

Update from DJI!!! Soooo... they want me to remove my Air Unit from my quad and send it in to them so that they can disect it to see if there is anything wrong with it. I told them that if they send me a new one first, then I would swap it out and send them the original one for their inspection. I do not think they will agree. I think I will fly in Auto mode till the next firmware update to see if they addressed this issue.

That's also what i do. Specially because they aren't sure i the O3 Air unit is the issue.
