My first wing
#1
Hey all,

I just ordered my first FPV Wing: DIATONE Ripper R690 aka HEE Wing F-01. KIT version. Now, i need to wait about month (delivery China -> EU).
I have some wing-beginer questions:
 • what HD cam for recording video? Min 2K resolution for sw image stabilisation. Caddx Tarsier, RunCam Hybrid etc can be OK? Or recommendation for better camera?
 • I have very small storage place. Thinking about modification like this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4946545 for transport & storage. Its good idea?
 • What I can do to make this thing more crash proof? Dont crash isn't solution, because me Big Grin
 • please recommend good wing servo for this thing (manual say 9g digital servo). Best quality for reasonable price Wink
 • In this thing I want to use ELRS for first time. What antena location/orientation for best signal?
 • More ideas to share?
Thank you all!

Tom

Thick packing tape along the leading edges of the wing helps to prevent rips and tears.  Outside of that, simply keeping your altitude high enough to give you time to correct is about all you can do.  Pay attention to your CG...I have learned this the hard way.  Get it as close as you can to the listed spec.  Watch your airspeed...wings will stall and once they do the only correction is to get air moving over the surface again.  These things bleed off speed quickly in tight turns.

As I do not mess with HD video, no suggestions there.

I'd take it one step further than Kairtlynn suggests and add reinforced packing tape along both LE's and along the bottom of the wing both at the root and wing tip.

One step better is to laminate the LE's and bottom in place of the packing tape. Laminating will make it nearly bullet proof for landings. You can find the film here: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L...UTF8&psc=1 That size roll will last for years frankly, so you might want a smaller amount. To apply it you can use a hobby iron (around $20) and a heat gun. But if those aren't in the budget you can use a regular clothes iron and hair dryer. Just be sure to keep your temps low when using on foam. About 140 to 150c is fine. Too hot and the foam will start to melt.

I land both my wings and planes without gear on desert floor (pretty much plant free but definitely hard dirt and rocks). The laminating film protects so well it is amazing. And if it does get scratched up or torn badly you can simply peel it off and apply new.

Thanks for replies. Wing is still "somewhere" in transport. Landing skids will be 3D printed (im lazy too to laminate Tongue ). My actual question: the wings are to be originally fitted with GDW DS031MG servos. Are they good quality, or not? Can you recomend better quality servos with similar parameters (size/weight/speed/torque/...)?

Thanks in advance!

I'm freaking happy...
Still dont know what servos for wing?  Huh
What about Bluebird BMS-126WV? Is this good servo? Can someone reccomend a better servo?

Looks like their PNP version comes equipped with 9g servos which are pretty common, readily available through GetFPV, RDQ and the like. Digital or analog will work, I shifted to analog after experiencing flutter when my aircraft 900mhz control link appears to have caused some interference. You will want metal geared servos, regardless of what you choose. My initial flight with my S800 demonstrated the weakness of the ones with plastic gears.

Damn... All work and no joy makes me a dullboy ?
Three months full of work was hard, but now; I'm slowly moving with my R690...

I decided to make removable wings. Because better storing and transport, abd because i can ?
So, I designed my own 3D printed parts. One part like this:

is glued into hull and second one:

is glued in wing (together with M4 nut)
Big thanks to my boss who allowed to print those parts with professional SLS 3D printer - parts are super strong and superlightweight

For electric connection wing-hull is used magnetic pogo pins connector:

Build progress is slower than I expected, but flight season is still waiting...
