JHEMCU GSF-405ABMI 3.5g budget 1-2S AIO serial ELRS, Baro, Blackbox, plentyUARTS, i2c
#1
This is a very attractive board with lots of potential for a micro build. One of the few with serial ELRS and 4 spare UARTS on top plus the i2C pads. Also comes with baro and 8M flash for black box inside a tiny 3.5g footprint. Runs 1-2S, but ESCs are only rated for 5A, so only small light motors. It is a whoop board, however with the right combination maybe even a light 2S 2.5"/3" build. Price is around $40 on Aliexpress. It does come with a BMI270 gyro though, and not sure how it will perform. I just received mine today, sadly it had the ridiculous default PID tune/filter settings, but not sure if JHEMCU just flashes these settings by default or the board really needs it to fly. Fingers crossed...

It seems the board used to come with the MPU6000 and that version was sold in the US for more than double the price.

These look great on paper, but are downright cursed to use. I have several of these in both MPU6000 and BMI270 versions, and also the GF16 stack. Note also there are several revisions of each FC, so things might be different board to board.

The on-board ELRS receiver is terribly designed:
* I'm pretty sure they didn't connect the WiFi antenna because range on every board I've tested is a few cm tops if they work at all.
* Some revisions have loading caps on the XO for the SX1281, so they suffer badly from the XO issue (https://www.expresslrs.org/hardware/crys...ncy-error/).
* The connection of the boot pins and boot buttons on the FC seem to be random, with some boards functioning normally and some requiring both boot buttons to be pressed to be put into flashing mode.

General issues:
* The FC is very dense, and the 3.3v and 5v regulators are prone to failure.
* The gyro power circuit and location is poor, leading to a very noisy gyro signal (especially with the BMI270 gyro).

I really had high hopes for these boards, but wow are they frustrating!

PS
I also created an Ardupilot target for these if you have any hair left after the initial setup. Smile

Thanks for your input, I had my doubts and can now set my expectations accordingly... Sad
For range this is just an issue with the wifi for setup, or do you mean in flight too?

I also just setup their 16x16 stack (another attractive on specs board), but only had a chance for a short hover... It seemed to hover fine, but the motors did oddly feel warm...

Have you tried the Betafpv 5A Serial ELRS board, is that a safer option. Too bad it is only 1S.

And as for hair, too late I don't have any left...

I cannot say about 5A tiny AIO FC boards. Smallest I go is 85mm or 95mm whoop.

I like the BetaFPV F4 2-4S 12A.
But the motor pads are too small. It does have Blackbox which is nice.

I have the JHEMCU GHF405 PRO BMI, which has the BGA F405. I'm hoping it survives more crashes.
Somehow I managed to bust F722 chips, and they are coincidentally most expensive. Probably because they are so big, and during crash, something internally breaks?? e

Ciottifpv has been testing 1s whoop AIOs.. some of the ones with ELRS have had big failure rate or poor flight characteristics..
Unfortunately, decent price with good specs are like a worm on a hook for us…

That is disappointing to hear. I see he has a youtube channel, but is he posting his experience with these boards somewhere?

He does a weekly 2 hour live stream every Sunday afternoon (US time zones) and also sometimes during the week so that is where most of his experience gets discussed. I couldn't however tell you which livestreams or where in those livestreams he has specifically discussed the ELRS AIO boards.

Anectdotal - from everywhere I heard - 1S boards suck and break easy.
Bob Roogi (KababFPV) said same thing. Very hard to get it right.

Its cheap components. Very small PCB. Very few filtering capacitors.
The IC, like the BB2 and F4 MCU create some 50-100ma transients.
The ESC FET create much bigger transients too. High end ESC use separate PCB.

Now imagine somehow amongst this electrical noise you stick a receiver circuit.
