HOTA charger output
#1
I am not sure the title is accurate, but here is my real question:  I am getting a Sequre SQ-001 soldering iron for Christmas.  I am wondering if I can power it with my HOTA Dual battery charger?  Can I plug in with an XT-60 and power the iron like I was charging batteries?  I would be using AC mains for the power source.

Maybe, but highly unlikely. The charger will likely detects irregularities with current and stop. You pay that much for the HOTA, what is A few more dollars for at 24v PSU.

Thanks Voodoo. I have a Pyramid bench transformer, from a previous hobby. Just trying to understand my options. I didn't think it would work either, just wanted confirmation.

I have both devices (I am assuming you have the HOTA D6 Pro). Although I have never tried to plug in my SQ-001 into my HOTA D6; it should be possible. You have to switch the HOTA to "power supply" mode. In power supply mode, according to specs, it has current/voltage limiting capability and should supply a clean source of power. However, I'll test it and let you know if I fry my iron Wink

That will likely work.  Did not know that the HOTA has that option.

Thank you for the info Nuxnik. I hadn't paid attention to that setting. But, it looks like it will be a very good source of clean power for the Sequre.

No problem... just to follow up, I tested it last night and it worked like a charm Smile
