Helio Spring AIO vs Matek F405 CTR
#1
Opinions on these 2 FCs?  I was all set to go with the Matek, but the Helio is very nice and more peak amp handling.  200+ amps for over 3 minutes is darn good.  Any reason not to go with the Helio?

Are you talking about the Helio AIO ? I can't find the current rating on their product page.
Are you using it for 5" Quad?
I don't see anything wrong with either FC. The main difference is the firmware. I have no experience with Butterflight so I can't comment on that.

For my 10 inch build, which will be 6S/900-1050kv. (still studying issues SUGS raised on my motor selection)

Yes, the Helio Spring AIO, here is the link to where they talk about 25volts at 200 amps for up to 3 minutes, (at the bottom of the page).   I wrote to Matek to see what the max amp capacity for the F405CTR was and how long it could sustain max amps, and all they wrote me back with was 184 for max amps but no time on how long at max current.  So, given they chose not to answer my questions fully and the CTR has less total amps anyway, I decided I would give my business to Helio.  I like the CTR better based on your review of it and the issues you mentioned about how the gyro in the Helio AIO is more vibration sensitive in your review and my PM to you.  If Matek would have taken the time to answer my questions fully, I likely would have bought it as 184 amps for a decent amount of time would have been sufficient.

I'm not thrilled the AIO is not supported in betaflight, but butterflight is similar and lots of people love it.  Hopefully butterflight isn't much different than betaflight.

I cannot think of anything in ButterFlight will be unusual if you are used to BetaFlight.  Have The Japalura and 5" flashed to 3.5.0 and except for the ButterFlight logo, they look and feel the same to me.

Thanks Kaity, that lowers my angst a bit!

One note maybe worth mentioning, it feels like the aircraft (plural) flies a lot smoother on ButterFlight than BetaFlight. This led me to start looking comparatively at the default PID rates. The ButterFlight PID start with lower values. This is where my abilities really start to wane...I am not really able to visualize the correlation between numeric value and the physical result. Cannot wait for you to share your experience. Again, it just feels like the craft are little less "twitchy" while still being totally locked in still.

I will let you know what I think of butterflight.  It will be awhile 'til I get all the parts though.  Plus I'm mired down in a remodel of our house....but this build should be pretty cool.
