What happened? What problems did you observe? I thought your first tests went pretty fine... Huh

EDIT: Another thought, i don't know if there is an iNav (another firmware) target for your betaflight controller, but if there was, it might work much better for your large bird... could try this as long as you're waiting for the Naza to arrive. Smile

Hi FF, I did too but I finally had to accept that what results I was getting were more due to my flying than the FC helping. If I made even a small slip then things got out of hand very quickly indeed. My poor little Wooden It has taken a bit of a battering at the hands of the V3.

The hero worked well as a stabiliser but the lack of power was a problem. As told previously I had no problem hovering out the battery with the Hero (4.5 minutes) and over the take-off spot at that but I would have to go to 14.8V to lift the weight something I am reluctant to do at the moment.

I really would like to get to the bottom of why the Hero using the same hardware cannot deliver the power available to it.

FF can you provide more detail on the iNav firmware please? I am not familiar with that option.

And I must apologise to DJI for calling their Naza FC a Naze. Oooooppss!! Big Grin

So off I go once more slogging my way to that next pinnacle. Onwards and upwards.

These guys have much better advice than I could even start with... even if I cringe a little at the word "Naze"... but it's fun to keep reading the trials and tribulations of your experience!

Keep on, stay strong, and well... knowing your history at that point... I can't really say "keep going 'til; you succeed" because I think you're probably a bit beyond a pro at that... you're kinda one of the inventors of that :p I am rooting for you!   Popcorn

Thanks Carl. I certainly intend to keep on keeping on.

Hi Lazie, Glad you like the thread. It is fun working on this project but exasperating at times.

And I certainly intend to see it through to the end and reporting accurately the outcomes in the hope that it is all of some help to others.

So stay tuned for there is much more to follow. Big Grin

I'll be following closely to see the results with the Naza installed. I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised with it's performance and ease of setup and adjustment.

iNav is pretty similar to cleanflight and betaflight, except it's more concentrating on autonomous flight, and out of the box seems to work much better for larger multicopters (maybe see last pages of the "tuning 500mm quad" thread in tuning clinic folder). I'll look for some links later.

Thanks Reno, that is the kind of comment that I need at the moment.

Something that offers a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

Still what I am going through is no different to what I have been through on many past projects.

You learn what does not work before moving on to a much stronger grasp of the subject at hand, ultimately to end up with a successful project as a result of past failures.

And they also have a dedicated website: http://inavflight.com/

Thanks a lot FF. I will start looking at these later tonight.

Keep in mind that if you're going to install a Naza-M, you'll have to use the DJI configurator and firmware.

Thanks Reno, I am aware of that but I would like to give the Hero a try with the iNav firmware while I am waiting for the Naza.

One bit of advice on the Naza is to upgrade the GPS puck with an M8N. The stock DJI unit is M6 and the ublox will give you quicker fix, more satellites.

Edit to add, belated welcome to the forum KK (incidentally KK is what my dad was known as in his younger days!) It is a huge honour to have you among us!

Thanks Tom, a compliment indeed. Pity I do not deserve it. I am struggling with this quad business.

Give me fixed wing any day. Big Grin
