HDZero integrated goggles in the works
#76
Hi Rob,

You can use spacers and longer bolts to mount a 14mm nano cam on a frame
designed for a 19mm micro cam. I have done this several times. It actaully
works pretty well.

I was thinking about doing that but I want to see how the nano V2 performs before I get one.

One reviewer thinks it’s the best HDZero camera yet but he could mean nano camera only not all hdzero camera?

I’ll try a whoop lite first and micro v2 I have had good results with.

I would like a Hdzero set of goggles but until they are out for a while and whether they will work with my eye sight is the final factor.
I think the face plate will come off and if my eye doctor will make them into a set of glasses they may work to fix my vision.
I did mount lenses inside my dji but glasses work good too.
Since I started using Orqa pilots I can see so good it’s like a new hobby.
Anyway just rambling on.

Does anyone know if the firmware version of HDZERO can be checked without using a FC and stick menu?
Sometimes when I flash firmware it doesn’t take and the only way hdzero shows to check is by going inside vrx menu and then using sticks look at vtx version but that requires a FC and radio receiver.
I could be wrong so I am trying to verify.

Something about the HDZ goggles just looks so janky to me. Probably didn't help that the first view of the thing was a 3d printed ghetto hack. I look at it side by side against other goggles and fundamentally, its the same form factor. But just something is very missing. I do hope a Flywoo or Runcam or Foxeer takes up the reigns and puts some of that design mojo to bear in making their own HDZ goggles. For now, I'll likely stick with my Fatshark goggles and Shark Byte modules.

I see what you are saying. I saw a rumor somewhere ORQA was attempting to buy up HDzero, so maybe that will make it better.

Holy cow. That would make things interesting!! Orqa definitely has the style down pat.

But ORQA is not a very open company although their tech is good.

ORQA does need to put actual pcb's in those dummy digital vtx cases they showed off while launching their goggles.

It was something Ive read a few hints of on the HDzero discord, but I think Ian from mads tech hinted at it as well. I am not sure if it would be better or not with them involved. Carl making goggles for himself without help from the big players may or may not be a good thing either. I've also seen talk of Skyzone making a box goggle eith HDzero to replace the fatshark scout HD. That might be nice as well. Actually, if I could get a SKY04X with built in HDzero I would. Maybe that will happen too?

I want to wait and see how this thing with the goggles works out. I do NOT want to
buy goggles and then retrofit an HDZero module onto them. HDZero goggles will be
the only way to go for me.

Carl Zhou Wrote:I’m pleased to announce the release date and pricing of the HDZero Goggle.

This goggle was made with the FPV community, for the FPV community. I’ve poured everything I have into this goggle to make it the best it could be for you. Thank you for your patience, feedback, and support.

First the release date:
Plastic injection molds are being cut right now. Circuit boards and optics are being manufactured. I am confident that the first batch of goggles will be ready mid-November.

A sizable group of beta testers have been invited to help test the first production batch of goggles (beta by invitation only). These testers will provide feedback on fit, finish, and critically software and RF performance. I want to be transparent with you all: these testers will receive a 25% discount as a token of my appreciation for the feedback they will provide to help ensure the product has a stable release. Beta testers may share their experiences freely with everyone – positive or negative.

5 HDZero Goggle pre-production units will be used by pilots at MultiGP Championships October 18-21. Pilots at the event may try the goggles out along with the new nano 90fps camera. The next batch of goggles will be ready by late December (in time for Christmas). These goggles will be available for anyone to purchase. Resellers may accept pre-orders starting late-November.

Now, the price:
I’ve worked hard to keep price low, and feature set high with these goggles. However, these are premium goggles with costly screens/optics, and electronics. I’ve built these goggles to last you a long time, and to be versatile supporting analog, HDZero, and HDMI inputs.
HDZero Goggle will retail for $599 MAP
Add-on Analog Module Bay with 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi module will retail for $59 MAP

Thank you for your support, I couldn’t do this without all of you.
Carl

Ryan posted a video on the Analog module related deinterlacing improvements:

Nice comparison with the Skyzone goggles and how the video is shifting slightly up/down and also stair stepped due to interlacing effects.

HDZero is handling the the de-interlacing fairly well, however the OSD elements now shift up/down Smile

This is due to the OSD chip we use on our FC's.

A bit of a chicken and an egg type situation Smile

I'm gonna go ahead and assume the actual retail goggles will be injection molded and not roughly polished 3d printed PLA with a sticker on it lol.
