Can anyone compare these two little quads? I'm reading very very nice things about both and am really not able to decide which one could be my second quad.
Thanks

GEPRC Phantom vs Cygnet anyone? |
15-Aug-2020, 03:54 PM Can anyone compare these two little quads? I'm reading very very nice things about both and am really not able to decide which one could be my second quad. Thanks 15-Aug-2020, 04:16 PM I don't have either. But you are comparing two different classes of quad. One is a Toothpick, while the other traditional 3-inch freestyle. If you want more durable, go with the Cygnet. If you want light-weight, get the Phantom. That is my input. Geprc makes quality products, so you can't go wrong. 15-Aug-2020, 05:04 PM Being as you well know a still very uncapable pilot I'll go for durable ![]() 15-Aug-2020, 05:56 PM Before you pull the trigger. Make sure you can get spare frame parts. 15-Aug-2020, 06:29 PM Right ... and also need to understand a lot of other things amongst which: 1) The Cygnet can be had on Banggood with two different receivers: Frsky R9 MM or Frsky XM+. Does my new (waiting for me at home) Radiomaster TX16s support both and in that case which one should I go for? 2) You mean this? https://www.banggood.com/Geprc-Cygnet-CX...rehouse=CN 3) Not sure which spare propellers to buy 4) Not sure which batteries to begin with. Probably 3S but not sure about capacity and brand and later on maybe go to 4S ??? 15-Aug-2020, 07:08 PM 1. With the RM, you can only bind to the XM+. Not telemetry though. R9MM is the 900mhz system and requires a R9M module. Too bad it doesn't come with R-XSR. 2. Yes, replacement frame parts. Everything else is readily available. Maybe not the exact parts, but you can find replacement. Frame parts, once discontinued, you are out of luck. 3. Props are 3 in. Pretty much any 3 in props will work. Make sure the mounting holes are the same. The ones that come with your are Emax Avan 3024. The first two numbers (30) indicate the length 3.0 inch. The last two numbers (24) is 2.4inch pitch. The higher the pitch number, the more aggressive the props. Be careful if you buy too high of a pitch, it can over tax your motors and ESCs. 4. I would probably just go 4S. You can always limit throttle through BF if 4S is too much for you. Thank you very very much. On the last point, the batteries given a call number, are 850s always heavier than 650s and so on? The GEPRC page for the cygnet says "Battery: The novice recommends using the 2s 450-600mah battery. Professional flying professionals recommend 3s 450mah-850mah" Are there brands that are more trustworthy than others=? I read a lot of people writing about TATTU and/or GNB ? Also, would it be hard for a newb like me to buy the version with no receiver and then buy a R-XSR receiver and solder it? That would work with TX16s? If if understand correctly I'd need to solder 4 wires from the R-XSR to the FC, right? Would this be it? https://www.banggood.com/FrSky-R-XSR-Ult...rehouse=CN Would this be needed or useful? https://www.banggood.com/Frsky-5P-5-Pin-...rehouse=CN 850mah has more capacity than 650mah. Therefore it is usually heavier. On my 3 inch, I use 650-850mah 4S. Again 4S is faster than 3S. A 4S with the same capacity of a 3S will have more potential which means more flight time. But the weight of the heavier 4S will cancel out some of the flight time. Again, going 4S will mean a faster quad, but you can slow it down in BF. Tattu is good, but not necessarily the best. You can check out JB new video where he tested a bunch of lipos. If you are not comfortable in soldering, maybe you have fun flying first. You will either learn to repair, otherwise your quad will be sideline at some point. We all crash and break stuff in this hobby. It is not hard to solder a receiver to the FC. But you want to practice first on a bead pcb or an old circuit board. I would not try soldering for the first time on your FC. And yes, the R-XSR will work with the RM. The R-XSR is either 4 wires with SBUS /S.PORT or 3 wire with F. Port. But the FC that comes with the Cygnet does not have the necessary connections to wire up the S. Port or FPort. So XM+ might be your only choice. That will make your decision easy. FYI, the R-XSR comes with cables. You don't need extra cables. 16-Aug-2020, 12:12 AM (This post was last modified: 16-Aug-2020, 12:13 AM by SnowLeopardFPV.) Just get one of each - a Phantom and a Cygnet ![]() ![]() ![]() If you are considering Cygnet, may be consider Geprc Cinequeen too. It is 3 inch cinewhoop with better camera than Cygnet and the duct will give you /others some protection as you build up your skill. Unlike some other quad with ducts , it still flies very nicely according to many reviews and you can always remove the duct in the future when your acro skill has improved for even better performance. It is more expensive than Cygnet but I think it is worth it just for the better fpv camera and versatility. This guy is usually very critical of any cinewhoop but he likes the cinequeen. Just go with BNF with XM+. It is reliable with good range and you don't have to worry soldering / telemetry setup etc. If you must have telemetry , then get R-XSR. YouTube - Juicy FPV Journey And Geprc Phantom is versatile and a lot of fun. It is less likely to draw unwanted attention at the local parks. I'd built a few around the Phantom frames as i broke one in a crash, lost one to a tall tree and finally rebuilt one with bigger motors as a acro "trainer" for my 5". So I'm a fan of the Phantom frame. YouTube - Juicy FPV Journey Guys I am very grateful for all of your experience and kindness. Yesterday as I started putting stuff around the Cygnet idea in BGs cart the final sum was very high since around the quad I had added "once" items such as a good chargers, the batteries, a soldering station, the 800D etc. So all in all maybe I'll start with the less expensive Phantom with some of the needed paraphernalia and maybe in time add a nice platform to shoot movies. Here would be my shopping list. If you spot any errors or inconsistencies please let me know: The Phantom with XM+ -> https://www.banggood.com/GEPRC-PHANTOM-T...rehouse=CN A spare frame -> https://www.banggood.com/GEPRC-GEP-PT-PH...rehouse=CN Replacement props -> https://www.banggood.com/2-Pairs-Emax-AV...rehouse=CN 3S XT30 batteries -> https://www.banggood.com/2Pcs-Gaoneng-GN...rehouse=CN and then some needed "accessories" The 800D goggles -> https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-EV800D-...e_products The HOTA H6 charger -> https://www.banggood.com/HOTA-H6-Pro-DUO...rehouse=CN All of this as my XMas present (with a few months in advance) ![]() |
