Frequency Tuning Question
#1
Hi all. I just found out what receiver protocol on my radio I should use to bind my receiver. EX: (Frsky, frskyrx, frskyx2).   The one that I will have to use is Frsky X2. I then found out about frequency tuning and do not understand it. Can someone please elaborate on it? Is it required or necessary? Is it easy to perform?

Watch this video for the explanation:

Basically not all hardware is perfectly tuned from factory and often we need to tune the frequency for optimal results.

in the video he was using a receiver that was able to transmit the RSSI value to his radio to see when the RSSI dropped. I am going to use a XM+ receiver. Do I need to do anything special to be able to view the RSSI when I do my frequency tuning such as enable the telemetry in Betaflight on channel 16 or will it show up automatically when I change my frequency tuning value. I know how to set up RSSI in the goggle OSD but am wondering if it shows up automatically when I change my frequency tune value?

Thanks!

The XM+ doesn't support telemetry data back to the transmitter so you will have to either use the RSSI value shown in your goggles, or the RSSI value shown in the "Info" panel on the right hand side of the Setup tab of Betaflight Configurator. That's assuming of course that your XM+ has the firmware installed on it which transmits RSSI to the FC over either channel 8 or channel 16.

OK. so while I am adjusting my Frequency tuning values, I just either look into my goggle OSD or hook up my quad to Betaflight and check that way? I just emailed Iflight to see if they have it defaulted to have RSSI set up on one of those channels. If they don't, I don't really want to flash new firmware so is there any other way I can tune my frequency values not being able to see the actual value?

Yes, exactly that.

If the XM+ doesn't have the RSSI enabled firmware flashed to it then there will be no way to see or extract the RSSI value from it. It needs to have one of the RSSI firmwares installed on it that outputs the RSSI value on either Channel 8 or Channel 16.
