fpv plane with radiomaster elrs
#1
Hello

Wanted recommendations for best fpv plane that would work with a radiomaster elrs controller?

Budget is <~$100.

I already use my controller with my quad. Already fly rc planes, but wanted to try fpv planes and with the radiomaster.

I think most of the planes I've looked at so far like the PNP Wing AR Pro come already with the FC, but would it work with radiomaster elrs controller? Or would I have to add the RX elrs to the plane?

Thank you!

Most planes I know are at best, PNP kits, which means receivers are not included, you need to supply your own receiver.
That means you can use your Radiomaster ELRS readio if you buy the right receiver to work with the plane. There are two types of receivers:
PWM receiver or serial receiver.
If the plane has a flight controller that takes serial input (e.g. TX and RX connection), then you can just get a serial receiver which is the most common receiver available. Otherwise get a PWM receiver but make sure it has enough outputs, PWM receivers for ELRs is still quite new and most only have like 4 or 5 outputs. Maybe there are newer ones that can do more but I haven't seen any yet.

Hello

I have an EP1 and EP2 elrs receiver. So if I get a wing/plane with a FC that has a serial connection I can't solder the EP1 to it?

Thanks

As long as the FC is running firmware that supports the CRSF protocol (Betaflight, INAV and Ardupilot all do) and it has a spare UART available then you can just solder an EP1 or EP2 ELRS receiver to it no problem.

ELRS also supports SBUS output now (currently in master, will be in the next release). You can also use EP1/EP2 receivers directly as 3ch pwm receivers if you flash the PWMP firmware.

There are also CRSF-PWM converter boards you can solder an ELRS receiver to that support up to 10 PWM outputs, plus voltage and GPS telemetry. http://www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=crsf-pwm

There are ELRS PWM receivers out there too, new RadioMaster ones look great:

I'll for sure get a few

It just so happens that BetaFPV recently did a 14 channel ELRS receiver. Despite their reputation, they're often among the first to do certain stuff.
