Welcome to a hobby that is super expensive and legislated to hell and back.

Cool, how are Neo and Trinity going. Still in love?

I'm thinking of 2.5 inches as a starting point.
Good choice, just enough power, but not too much. So Ideally 1202.5 or 1204, maybe 1303.5 in a 3-4S variant.

Something fairly powerful, but not enough that you will get yourself in a ton of trouble. A little trouble is fine.

Or do you have a better suggestion? I will fly for real estate in 1 year. Thank you in advance
Fly and build what you want. I would probably start with say a DarwinFPV BabyApe or TinyApe. 2-3S is not going to get you into much trouble, but will still be enough to blow your socks off. Just enjoy the flying.
So what you will realise pretty quickly is you have a lot of quads available to buy. If you want digital then you need to sell a kidney, but to buy analog, well, give up sweets for a week.
So buy something analog and learn to fly properly. Sims are all good for learning muscle memory, but they are nothing like real life. Once you encounter wind, voltage sag due to cold weather and that annoying karen that comes up and starts bitching at you while you are ripping (and if you have good sense you tell to go away in any way you wish, but preferably using colourful language), then you will realise the poophole you decided to get yourself in, isn't like flying in Liftoff. It's better. You can't tell Karen's where to go in Liftoff.
