I'm surprised no-one posted a link to Stew's video on this, so I'll do it now Smile

I talked to liftoff about the floatiness... they told me it would be if the computer spec isn't good enough...
But I am not sure what they did to the game in recent updates, it felt a lot better than before on the same gaming PC i have been using it on.
For older PC or laptop I'd recommend velocidrone.

I am currently running a GT 730 graphics card on mine and Liftoff is way too floaty for me.  Velocidrone physics are much better on this older graphics card/machine and that's why I use it.  I'm also upgrading my graphics card to a GTX 1060 in the next few days for better overall performance.

I've just bought FPV Air 2, only tried out if it runs and gotta play with it later. Main reason is that Liftoff is giving a hard time to my good old, once gaming speced, laptop. I just noticed there is plenty of physics settings in the FPV Air 2 menu - did you guys fiddle with that in any way?

I've just downloaded the Velocidrone software and will try to find some time today to start the 3-day trial. Like FPV Air 2, Velocidrone is supposed to play a bit nicer with older machines (which mine is) so I'll see how it goes.

The thing that has held me back with FPV Air 2 is the apparent limited (or non-existent) freestyle tracks, although I notice there is a new "Freestyle Bando" track becoming available on the 28th September which looks like it may be free (?)

Velocidrone just seems to be a bit maturer and already has a number of freestyle tracks but it obviously comes at a cost because the full version is 4x the price of FPV Air 2. If I'm not happy with it during the 3-day trial, I'll likely jump onto FPV Air 2 instead.

It appears that there is a freestyle map "pack" coming out for FPV Air 2 in a few days and that will be fun! For now, my favorite track is Stu's design and I just ignore the race stuff and all tracks are freestyle!

It may be because I am a Spektrum guy, but I had to adjust throttle up and gravity down to get it to fly anywhere near how my quads feel. The defaults had the quad never able to pull out of a dive and hitting the ground every time.

This is great practice for high altitude flight spots!!!  Big Grin

Yeah, it's not clear if they are going to start charging for additional packs because I see that the "Nightrace DLC" track pack is listed at $10, so if they start charging that sort of money for each track pack they bring out then Velocidrone ends up being the clear winner, with the added bonus that it doesn't need all the Steam platform bloatware installed which seems like a complete overkill for a non-gamer who doesn't use Steam for anything else.

I never got round to initiating my Velocidrone trial today because the rain dissipated and the sun came out for a bit so I decided to get outside and take the real thing for a short fly around instead Smile

Being a total gamer geekbabe...I have a bunch of games in Steam, so it made sense...but I can see the put off if you have to load it just for a single simulator. What would be awesome is a simple to use map editor and a larger canvas for bigger tracks!

So the freestyle maps pack is out - it costs 4e in Steam. I bought it and... hmm I'm not that impressed. The "Mill" map is nice layout, you can try all sorts of tricks, the other two are kinda lame I'd say. What is my biggest problem is that some of the obstacles have quite weird hit boxes (or how do you call it, stuff that makes you crash). Like there's a crane but some of the iron parts are kinda fly-through. Well it's okay enough, to practice, but I felt like ranting a little Big Grin

Yeah, and it looks like that's a time limited period with 20% off so it will go back up to $6 at some point. Like with most other app that have "in-app" purchases, the initial price is either free or low to hook you in but then as time goes on you realise you've ended up shelling out more with the add-ons than another competitor product with a higher one-off fee would have cost.

Do you use Velocidrone at all? If you do, how do you rate the freestyle maps in that one? I've postponed starting my free trial until I know I have 3 days in a row when I'll be able to make the most out of it before deciding to commit to a purchase but hopefully that will be soon.

i have to try soon this new map package, look good enough for the price.
but i'm still in love of liftoff. Velocidrone is not bad, even more for low configuration... But i have more feeling with liftoff.

Anyway, i'm still thinking the best way to improve fly skill with simulator is to fly a bit with liftoff and a bit with velocidrone.

I don't have Velocidrone, gotta give it a shot. I started with Liftoff as well, it's awesome, but... my laptop - even though once (5 years ago) gaming specced - is not not being able to handle it for more than 30-40 minutes. After that the throttling kicks in - and it's kinda difficult to fly with 5 FPS Big Grin
