FC shopping when flying digital fpv
#1
Recently as I was troubleshooting a sharkbyte 500mw vtx. Yeah, I know it’s a POS, but I had to try..
Anyway, as I was looking at entering the HDzero settings via controller(s bus/ smart audio) the vtx didn’t have this feature and I noticed on my 5” with the 1w.. it used 2 uarts (mamba f405/ 6uarts).. and I have crossfire.. no big deal…
With RID coming into play real soon, I’m looking at converting my sub 250 rigs to digital..problem is.. some of my FCs only have 2 uarts and I want to update the controller link to crossfire or ELRS…on top of that if I want control of HDzero system via subs / smart audio.. I will need a added uart.. voltage pads are not as much of a issue and can be handled with a small external BEC. I’m working around these “issues” and will still fly some analog.. honestly the cadxx ratel cameras AND the HDzero Google (analog module) has me impressed ..so I’m not in a hurry to make the swaps… but thought this may help someone with a future fc purchase in the near future using full uart RXs

Well, this thread means nothing at this point if what I read is true… Betaflight 4.4 allows HD -zero to have full control without using sbus / smart audio. so only ONE uart is required opposed to 2

Huh? That is interesting, and unknown to me. Definitely free up some needed uarts on a some LR builds I was wanting to do to test some range.

Where is that documented? I'd like to read about what I need to do.

Bardwell covered it in a recent video.. I THINK it was he recent review if the “new” race vtx. I’ll see if I can find it

How about the other way with elrs in sbus (one wire) mode?   Leaving the full uart pair for the digital vtx.

Also keep in mind that some digital only FCs have dropped the analog OSD chip so that is a futher saving in weight/space.

You guys are awesome. I learn at least one thing each time I visit from everyone. I'd have to keep my nose to the grindstone keeping up with all of this.
