I have some spare parts laying around so I thought it would be an interesting weekend project to build a display with the Fatshark module Should be great for spectators and testing gear. Still working on the 3D printed box, I will share the files along with the build log and parts list once it’s done Posts: 545 Threads: 28 Likes Received: 135 in 101 posts Likes Given: 94 Joined: Oct 2018 Reputation: 6 13-Jan-2019, 10:20 PM (This post was last modified: 13-Jan-2019, 10:20 PM by brnmd.) Once I have a new set of googles! (Have some doubts between Fatshark HD3 or HD2T) I'll make the same with my Quanum DIY V2 Pro and Diversity receiver What screen do you have? • Posts: 5,314 Threads: 672 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,027 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 13-Jan-2019, 10:53 PM (This post was last modified: 13-Jan-2019, 10:54 PM by Oscar.) Glad you took on the task. haha I enjoy playing with 3D printing - it's just the printing takes way too long, 5-6 hours to print the box! • Posts: 5,314 Threads: 672 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,027 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 It works Still needs some tweaking, one more print and should be there Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,738 in 2,835 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 Very nice. Meanwhile using a toggle switch for testing. • Posts: 545 Threads: 28 Likes Received: 135 in 101 posts Likes Given: 94 Joined: Oct 2018 Reputation: 6 A bit of sanding and painting and should really look like a product ready to be sold I always prefer to add a bit of chamfer or fillet along the edges, makes it look a bit nicer in my mind. • Posts: 5,314 Threads: 672 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,027 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 Will do all that after the internal design the shape can change so no point making it look nice now • Posts: 21,044 Threads: 576 Likes Received: 8,840 in 6,538 posts Likes Given: 1,423 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 778 This looks really good I did wonder what that cut-out in the top left was for but now I can see I don't have any 3D printing capabilities but it always wonder how much this sort of R&D costs to do because some of these larger items appear to use quite a lot of filament, and some of the filament reels don't appear to be particularly cheap. So it seems that there can be quite a lot of wastage if something goes wrong during printing, or if you need to redesign and do a complete new reprint again (maybe multiple times). • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 15-Jan-2019, 02:30 PM (This post was last modified: 15-Jan-2019, 02:33 PM by sloscotty.) It can get expensive, but when you want something that you can't buy anywhere, then it's worth it! (Not to mention the excitement and pleasure of seeing your own design come to life!) Also, some filaments are "recycleable". You can take all that "wastage", grind it up, and make new filament with the right tool: https://www.filastruder.com/products/filastruder-kit Posts: 5,314 Threads: 672 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,027 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 15-Jan-2019, 03:28 PM (This post was last modified: 15-Jan-2019, 03:30 PM by Oscar.) Material isn't too bad, it's the design that takes time, especially the wait for the print to finish so you can make additional changes that is costly. I get a roll of 750g filament for £20 to £30... each of these boxes uses around 80g of filament, I think I need to print up to 5 to get this box perfect... so £10-£15 to design this box but you can get some really cheap filament just for prototyping, £12 for 750g Posts: 5,314 Threads: 672 Likes Received: 3,155 in 1,743 posts Likes Given: 2,027 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 Redesigning the module bay. I tried to clone the one in the Fatshark goggles, the idea is we can use the original module covers for protection I will add a dip switch too for changing channels... so this display will support nearly all Fatshark modules (except the split modules)... even the old ones without screen.
