ESC RX

When you have a ESC that uses a Uart say like RX4, do you need to do anything in the setup page for this?

Is it a single ESC or a 4in1?

The RX pad on an ESC will be for providing ESC telemetry on a blheli-32 esc.

For a 4in1 you simply have one TX pad to connect to an RX pad on the FC. In case of 4 individual ESC’s you connect all on the TX wires to the same RX pad on the FC and the FC can parse data coming from individual ESC’s using dshot id of each ESC.

From a Betaflight side, on the Ports tab, we set ESC telemetry as a sensor input for the RX uart you connected the ESC telemetry wire/wires. And in the configuration tab you will turn on the option for ESC telemetry over a separate wire along.

If it all works then you can post ESC RPM/Temperature etc on the OSD.

I’m a little confused. So the Uart4 is the one used on the flight controller. In the ports tab for Uart4 does any thing need to be set or just leave all disabled? In the configuration tab if I use Dshot600 do I check the “ESC_SENSOR” box?

Yes, I would suggest to set the check the “ESC_SENSOR” to On in the Configuration tab and on the Ports tab set it to "ESC" under Sensor input example below:

This way you will get ESC telemetry in via the wire soldered to the RX pad on the FC.

and the other remark I had is that for individual wires for like single esc's?

The setup should be the same for a 4in1 ESC or 4 individual ESC's.

For individual ESC's we simply wire all the telemetry wires to the same RX UART.

Oscar's guide has an image showing this: https://oscarliang.com/esc-telemetry-betaflight/

Ok, oscars article is a little different cause of the BF version of 2017. The box I was referring to has been moved over under the Configuration motor protocol. It does get checked. Thanks for all your help today kafie!
