ESC caught on fire
#1
Hi all,

I took my new build (4s on 12A ESC 2300kv motor 5045 prop) to a first flight today and after soft crash on the grass the quad was flipped over. I assume since I didn’t disarm the quad while it was flip, the ESC getting hot from motor that cannot spin properly and start burning, am I right? Should I disarm the quad every time it crash?

You should disarm as quickly as possible after crash. But 12A is a little low. I recommend at least 20A.

Thank you for the reply. I just ordered a new set and this time I added a little upgrade to 20A hope it can help next time I forget to disarm my quad after crashing.

Hi xulu, yep if you leave it armed especially with any input (like air mode, throttle, etc) the gyro will try correct the orientation, and if the motors are obstructed in any way then the escs will overheat.
