I'm having a blast thinking I'm going to do great, but then the crash. soon to retire but may actually try to become a true competitive racer. my skills for repairing are actually getting proficient, but my cleanflight, betaflight programming skills are basic. trying to learn the pid science, dr expo levels, throttle levels etc. learning these science facts are helping my flying skills as it helps me to understand what I should be trying to achieve, but it also means the shortcut is the time with the transmitter and learning proficient flying. I live close to a facility in new jersey that is trying to become the first dedicated fpv racing site in the area with top shelf features. want to be able to show up and play/race with others and be competitive. You're correct, just a matter of getting a bunch of stick time in to become proficient. In fact, I've been talking to a very high level race pilot and he advised to just set up the latest version of Betaflight and if it flies well, just leave it on default settings until you become proficient. His advice was that there's no use in playing with PIDs and rates until you know what it's supposed to feel like when a quad's set up properly and can actually feel the difference when a change is made (if that makes ant sense). My first time in the air after some practice in sims I crashed during each of my batteries trying to go through gates. I know the 285 is a bit different than the 250 but I love my vortex as it's taken a bit of abuse already and so far I've only had to replace props, remount my receiver, rethink HD camera mount, etc. When you say "facility" that sounds like it's indoors, is that the case? That sounds kind of exciting but difficult if it is. Lots of opportunities for vertical elements! We have a permanent setup near where I live and I am very grateful for it. Well worth the $75 a year! I hope to get out there this weekend if the weather allows. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 Welcome Jongan! Posts: 1 Threads: 0 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Aug 2017 Reputation: 0 Hey guys I downloaded the drl simulator and im looking for advice on settings.. im great at race games and am really good at flying choppers in games like battlefield. Im having a hard time understanding expos, sensitivities, fov and cam angle. Any and all advice would be appreciated. I will eventually get a drone when im confident i can truly race them. • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Welcome Gaining! Feel free to start a new welcome thread when you're ready! I am sure the members will look forward to welcoming you My advice for DRL settings: - Start with low camera tilt at least at first... maybe 15-20... get the feel for things and then bump this up as you become more comfortable with controlling forward flight.
- FOV you can keep at default but I find that bumping it up a little makes it look more like the kind of lenses that I use... I set mine at about 90 degrees even though technically the cameras I use have about 110-125 FOV, too much looks funny on DRL
- For sensitivity, start with low... it'll feel more stable and controllable as you learn. Then bump it up as you go. As you start to get better at flying read up about "rates" which will make those settings easier to understand which will help you set them without the sensitivity presets.
- Expo is another one worth reading up on. It has to do with the sensitivity of small inputs vs big inputs. I have 0 throttle expo, 79% pitch/roll expo, and 47% yaw expo on mine... but it feels a little sloppier than my real quads and liftoff...
- Gravity, Mass, and Power I leave stock... Although I've thought about changing mass to match closer to my half KG all-up quads that I typically fly in RL... I just don't know how realistic these settings really are.
I hope this helps! carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • |
