It usually costs $19.99 so for the next two weeks you can pick it up for only $9.99... https://store.steampowered.com/app/641780/The_Drone_Racing_League_Simulator Also, don't forget that Steam offers a refund within 14 days of purchase if you've played a game for less than 2 hours. So it gives you an opportunity to try a game out and if you find you hate it, or it doesn't perform well on your PC, then you can just uninstall it and just get your money back Posts: 223 Threads: 23 Likes Received: 91 in 53 posts Likes Given: 126 Joined: Aug 2019 Reputation: 1 Thanks! Bought a copy will try tomorrow. Looked pretty nice, at least the map building part. Hopefully its as good as it sounds. I already have licenses for both VelociDrone and LiftOff so it will be good to see how DRL compares to those. With winter fast approaching I'm going to have to feed my addiction with sims rather than being able to go outside • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 I only have Velocidrone and do use it to good effect to practice new tricks I'm too scared to try for real. Also is a good warmup if I haven't flown in a while like right about now. But I always descourage noobs who think its a direct replacement to the real thing. With that said, is DRL Sim just as floaty as Velocidrone? My sense is proper feeling is tough to nail in a sim. I'm sure the math works out just fine, just that I feel like I can do 50 inverted yaw spins in these sims. • Posts: 21,397 Threads: 593 Likes Received: 9,029 in 6,683 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 795 08-Oct-2019, 01:22 AM (This post was last modified: 08-Oct-2019, 01:52 AM by SnowLeopardFPV. I agree that there is nothing like the real thing but a sim at least helps to give you some stick time and to keep some of your muscle memory fresh, especially during those long dark wet winter months You need to spend some time in a sim tuning the settings to get a more realistic as possible feel. For VelociDrone in particular, Mr Steele has put up a couple of videos in the past and there is one by Onigiri HERE showing you what settings to change to reduce the floatiness. Also, the higher your FPS, the more realistic it will feel so if your hardware isn't up to scratch then you need to change some of the graphic settings in the sim to push your FPS above at least 100. For a walkthrough on screen quality settings in VelociDrone, watch this video. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 Yea I did the Steele/Onigiri settings but still feel too floaty. I'm also a gamer so I'd like to think my rig is ok I run epic settings on most games I play - GTX 1070 slight OC and a Ryzen 5 1500X stable OC at 4.0. I've also got 32GB of DDR4 for the video editing. I think its more the settings. So are you saying if I feel that Velocidrone feels floaty then for sure DRL Sim will too? • Posts: 223 Threads: 23 Likes Received: 91 in 53 posts Likes Given: 126 Joined: Aug 2019 Reputation: 1 Yeah well.. Not great not terrible. I still prefer lift off for sure. Spend quite a lot of time adjusting graphics to make it look fine, otherwise depth of field was just ridiculous. I guess I will play this just to be able to play other maps for a change. Maybe once I get my drone I could adjust physics and if this would be super close to IRL drone, I would like it. But now it's 5/10. It's lacking optimization as well. Not going to refund it tho, probably will play hour or two in a week • Posts: 21,397 Threads: 593 Likes Received: 9,029 in 6,683 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 795 I haven't tried DRL yet but they completely revamped all the physics not long ago using 3D imagery data obtained in a from real quads being flown in a controlled environment, so it's supposed to be much better than it used to be. I prefer VelociDrone for a more realistic feel and Liftoff for the more real to life graphics. One thing I really hate about LiftOff is that if you stray out of the boundary of a scene, you only have about 5 seconds to get back within the boundary otherwise your session gets terminated any you just get dumped back to the starting point again. That feature really bugs the hell out of me. With VelociDrone, if you start flying outside of a boundary, the display just starts turning to snow like it would on a real quad which means you can turn back and fly back into the boundary area without your session being terminated. I don't yet know how DRL deals with out-of-boundary flying, but I guess I'll find out. • Posts: 223 Threads: 23 Likes Received: 91 in 53 posts Likes Given: 126 Joined: Aug 2019 Reputation: 1 Hmm i will definately buy velocidrone as well. Maybe next month I would like much more maps in Lift Off. Yes out of boundaries are anoying. In drl it just failsafes immediately faster than lift off. But the maps are damn huge (most of them). • |
