7 I am new to DJI and have a question regarding wiring the AU to a flight controller that isn't specified HD. Can I wire the AU to V-Bat or should I wire straight to the battery leads? I would like to keep things clean. I am using servo connections for everything on this build and would like the AU to be the same. Any help would be much appreciated.

796 You can wire the DJI Air Unit power any way you feel is best, but keep in mind that the Air Unit can only take 4S voltage so if you're using LiPos with a higher output then you will need to wire it to a voltage regulator output on the FC which outputs 8V or more, but not more than 16.8V. If you're using 4S LiPos and you wire the AU direct to VBAT then a low ESR capacitor is recommended.

7 13-Feb-2021, 11:53 PM (This post was last modified: 14-Feb-2021, 12:54 AM by wllmlutz.) I read Oscars tutorial. So I want to make sure I'm understanding it right. If I add a cap to the battery leads I should be fine? These Air Units are not cheap so I don't want to ruin it. Should I buy a voltage regulator? I'm using it on a wing so only one motor is being used and I don't think there should be any crazy voltage spikes.

796 14-Feb-2021, 12:10 AM (This post was last modified: 14-Feb-2021, 12:10 AM by SnowLeopardFPV.) You should be fine with a cap across the LiPo pads, but I assume you would be fitting one of those anyway for the usual reasons to mitigate ESC related noise issues. The AU has it's own onboard regulator, but both the DJI Air Unit and Caddx Vista are susceptible to noise when connected to the raw LiPo voltage rail, so you should always add a cap to help reduce any excess noise (and voltage surge to a certain extent). If you want to play it 100% safe then power the AU off a voltage regulator which will have it's own built-in noise suppression as an added level of protection.

7 Now concerning the 4s battery. with this one I won't be using anything bigger than 4s. My FR& build however is a 6s build. The flight controller is a Holybro Kakute HDV and is rated 2-6s. Do I still need a regulator for that flight controller of does it have one built in? It looks to me like the only thing that is 6s compatible would be the b+ going to the fc from the esc.

796 14-Feb-2021, 01:03 AM (This post was last modified: 14-Feb-2021, 01:07 AM by SnowLeopardFPV. Edit Reason: Deleted quoted post. ) The Holybro Kakute HDV has a dedicated socket for the DJI Air Unit and that outputs an 8V regulated voltage on the power pin to the AU. So as long as you connect the Air Unit to the DJI socket on the FC you can use any LiPo you want up to 6S. The AU will always receive 8V.

6 I'd be willing to step up and take care of those 100 beers for Snow. And we're only a couple hours apart!
