2 I have a transmitter with Open TX. When I buy a BNF quad is there and advantage (disadvantage) in choosing one brand of reveiver over another? Or is there no diffrence assuming you can bind to it. If there is a difference, how do you choose? Thanks in advance.

790 Which transmitter do you have? If it is one with a multiprotocol module then I would still use FrSky receivers over other brands, even with some of the firmware headaches you have with them. Either that or 3rd party FrSky compatible receivers.

I'm a fan of FlySky receivers but FrSky are great as well.... Also FrSky is muhch smaller and more appropriate for drones

It might save SnowLeopardFPV a few grey hairs later on....lol
Go Crossfire if you plan to go 900mhz.

1 I originally bought a Frsky Taranis transmitter. A couple months later, I realized crossfire was worth it and converted. The only drones I still have on frsky is my Mobula6; I even converted my Tinyhawks.
With crossfire, signal issues are a thing of the past. It was always a concern before.
If I had it to do over again, I would get crossfire from the start and save a few bucks vs starting with Frsky and paying more to upgrade later.
