capacitor on vcc pin
#1
Hey guys, just a quick questuion. Can you solder a capacitor directly to the vcc pin on the FC? I dont got any room for it at the battry connecting pads on my ESC.

Thank U.

The forum won't just let you type an answer of "yes" because it's not considered a long enough post, otherwise I would have just typed "yes" Big Grin

@OP - A capacitor on the VCC pin is fine because that is on the same voltage rail that the LiPo is connected to.

Joking aside, I actually thought the complicated answer was "yes but not as effective as caps at the lipo leads themselves or at the ESCs if individual ESCs" ... I was always under the impression that the closer the cap was to the source of noise, the better it does its job - but that could just be FPV Myth #524 who knows.

The noise isn't on the LiPo connector pads. It's on the whole LiPo power rail. I think the point about the LiPo being close to the noise source means "close to the operational circuit" (as in the FC as a whole) rather than on remote wires next to the XT60 connector itself or on extended wires off the circuit board. That said, I haven't seen any evidence to either prove or disprove that theory, so take it with a pinch of salt, unless of course you already know of a reputable source (?)

Not at all. In fact, I feel like I've been running around in circles lately chasing what I thought were factual but seem more like myths now like capacitance, lipo lead lengths, ESC noise, etc. Kinda annoying lol. Going forward, I'm just going to dismiss all these FPV axioms and go with what makes sense and personally works for me.
