Camera footage won't show up on goggles
#1
Photo
I recently bought a speedybee TX800 vxt for my racing drone. The goggles just show a gray screen, and sometimes the osd shows up. When I solder the camera directly to the vtx, the footage shows up in the goggles, but no osd. Any suggestions? Thank you!

My flight controller is the SpeedyBee F405 Flight Controller Stack.

On the osd tab in betaflight, try selecting NTSC as the video format:

Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

From the description in the first post, your symptoms of a black/grey screen with or without OSD points the finger at a bad AT7456E OSD chip on the FC. That is exactly the issue you get when the OSD chip is faulty. The fact that you get an image when wiring the camera directly to the VTX proves that the camera and VTX are both working fine. If you have a spare FC then try wiring the camera through that so see if you get both an image and the Betaflight OSD.

Use a magnifying glass to check for any stray solder balls, splatters of solder, or stray whiskers of wire on the FC that might be causing a short, especially between the pins on the OSD chip (it's the large rectangular chip with 28 pins), and check that there are no obviously missing components that might have been inadvertently knocked off. If everything looks OK then you will either need to replace the OSD chip on the FC (if you have the skills to do that), or replace the FC with a new one. Alternatively you will just have to live without Betaflight OSD and just wire the camera directly to the VTX.

I don't think that is the problem because recently the OSD has been showing up over the gray screen

That is the exact symptom you get when the OSD chip has a fault. It's passing out the OSD to the VTX but it's not combining the OSD text with the image it is getting from the camera, thus why you have a black/grey background with no image.

I'd fly sans OSD if I could figure out my battery level. Some of my batteries are worse off and don't last as long, flying without an OSD wouldn't work in that case as I'd fall out of the sky somewhere. LOS would work, but I am not good LOS flying.

Set a timer if you aren't using OSD.
