Building frame
#1
spent a lot of time indoors in recent months
an old wish was to make a small cnc machine for manufacturing drone parts
most parts printed very quickly and am now ready to make design and g code in fusion 360

and do the first tests still have to fiddle with settings

but it is starting to look im getting there

a few days of adjusting and adapting to my DIY CNC
stepper motors always missed steps needed some fine tuning
Also had to discover how fusion 360 works (I have not been using it for a long , until now i used 123d design but that is no longer supported)
Hope that I will succeed in producing  drone parts

it is a small miracle Tongue
[Image: zLNSbDgl.jpg]
smooth without finish

dimensional deviation below 0.1 mm
not bad for a largely 3d printed cnc DIY
I draw inspiration from the beautiful construction reports of the machine of Sloscotty, among others

on to drawing other parts

Really nice work. Somehow I managed to miss your previous posts. But I've seen them now Cool

Thanks for the shout.  You've got a much nicer spindle than I do.  Will you be trying some carbon fiber?  If so, you'll probably want to add some cooling (maybe even water-cooling) and dust collection to that. On the other hand, I'm anxious to see a plexiglass quad fly! Big Grin  Popcorn  Popcorn

No no carbon because of the toxic dust
Also want to try something else because i already have two carbon ones(and 1 lost?)
Try to use diabond for the arms and 3/2mm plexi fore the rest
I like the fluor orange collor(im dutch!)

again a bit further

Diabond as material for the arms is not a success Sad

does not mill well and is far too weak
expected more of this material

milled an arm with some samples trespa for control sizes
this went well again
thinking about alternative to the Diabond

Some really good work there. Thanks for the updates.

I think this is why many others have tried and failed in the past to make quad frames out of anything but carbon fibre that has the required strength and durability. Even if it seems strong and durable on the bench, it usually just breaks easily on the first crash. You may end up having to resort to milling your designs out of carbon fibre board. I guess we will wait and see if you have any success with other materials which don't need to be excessively thick or heavy in order to achieve similar strength/durability as CF.

I will continue to watch your progress with great interest Smile

Hugnosed bat thanks for the link !
yes gfk reminds me of when I was young and sporty ?built surfboards of 6 kg while everyone still sailed with boards of 20 kg have experienced the new  carbon fiber era up close
Im looking for a easy to mill product
Dos not have to be the strongest product
The fluor plexi glas i can look at the whole evening and still like it

it stole my heart
[Image: GTSFyOFl.jpg]
milling went bad today all kinds of mechanical problems (loosening bolts as result of vibrating  etc) have adjusted the model of the arm
proto model fitted accurately and is strong enough I think
[Image: RUlzeIjl.jpg]
pyrasied, there are wool threads in it
have to wait for further material samples
I can trim my cnc machine in the meantime

milling went a lot better today
[Image: c6DCEi1l.jpg]
speed increased and feed slightly lower

no post-processing necessary, it is nice to see the accuracy

today i made a proto for a frame part
 needs to be adjusted
[Image: 10QJv6il.jpg]
hope that the dimensions are so that I have no props in the picture
am not yet a supporter of a dead cat configuration

not as smooth as before
it turns out that it is polycarbonate , what has been extruded and is much more difficult to machine
material melts around cutter and causes all kinds of problems
so some other material ordered as a replacement
I am now done with the design of front
