Broken Vista UFL. Is this fixable?
#1
Hey everyone. Snapped the ufl off of my Vista after a crash, I think. The antenna was zipped to a post and the extra cable was wrapped around the same post. I'm not sure how this ripped off. Its somewhat exposed in the frame so I'm guess a precision branch strike from the tree I crashed into took it out. Or the antenna pad being gone and not in the other half of the antenna explains why this unit always had terrible signal.

Anyway, it appears that the antenna pad has ripped off. Does that seem to be the case? Is this fixable? I'm willing to tear it apart if need be.

See if you can get someone to repair it for you as suggested by Rob. If not you can try to find the trace to the ripped antenna signal pad, remove the mask by scraping slowly to expose the copper layer then solder an antenna or ufl pigtail to it. When it's done you probably want to test the range before putting it in a quad. It's better trying than throwing it away.

If you want to see how a Caddx Vista U.FL connector repair is done, see Tarek's video below. Everything is minuscule so if you decide to have ago at doing it yourself then just be aware that it's not a job for the faint-hearted. You need some fairly decent soldering skills, a decent soldering iron with a needle tip, a magnifying rig of some kind, and a very steady hand.

CycloneFPV aka Tarek is definitely the way to go for the repair. He also sells replacement boards (i.e. top board or bottom board) that are more of a for sure thing. However, his skills are impeccable. If you do try the repair yourself and it fails you can always buy a replacement board from him.

CycloneFPV isn't selling Vista top boards anymore unfortunately. Due to some recent "incidents" (see another thread HERE), Tarek has now already given away tens of thousands of dollars of his stock for free, and what limited stock that does remain is mostly being sold in bulk multiples of 5 or 10 units only...

While it no longer seems to be listed under any of the categories, if you search his web shop for "Vista" it does return a Vista repair service page (HERE), but it's not clear if he is still offering that service. The only way to find out would be to email him. I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is "NO".

Apologies for the late reply. Thanks everyone for the input. I'm going to reach out to CycloneFPV to see if there are any options. I also tried scrapping away some of the material as Oscar suggested. Its almost like the antenna leads were never there. No trace of them.

I have emailed / messaged them asking about if / when they will allow access to the store (not just the 5-10 items)… it’s been a couple days, no response.. that is out of character for them.. I hope they are just taking a break and everyone is ok..
