I would like to upgrade from my monitor that I have been using for fpv and I just can't decide. I have saved up around £220 for a set of new goggles and please can someone help me decide between the eachine ev800d for £80and the aomway commanders for £230.
Please can someone explain why people would choose the smaller fov of the commanders over the big ev800d. I recently tried some skyzones at the field and it was simply so uncomfortable to fly on such a small screen after trying some ev800ds. The only problem is that I cycle to the field and that's the only place where the commanders seem better:weight and size.
I don't mind spending the extra money if I need to as I want to get it right first time, but I also don't race so I don't need to hit gates or make slit second decisions as there are no tracks near me for me to race in. Please help me decide what is better as I do prefer a larger fov as I don't fly all, or every day but the aomways also seem so good though. I won't upgrade for another 2 years at least, so what do you think is better?

Goggles are personally things. I like a slim style because of the smaller FOV. I don't want my eyes to wander around when you are trying to hit gates or holes. Kind of like first person shooter video games. The Pros like playing on a monitor because it is smaller and they don't have to look around. But if you like the encompassing feel, you will like the box type goggles more. Although there are some slim type with bigger FOV like the Fatshark HD, but still not nearly the FOV as a box style.
I also like the slim type for the compactness of the goggles. In addition, I can swap out VRX whereas most box type, the VRX is built in. There are a few good VRX that are coming that I am excited about. But if you finally decide for box ones, I think the eachine vr d2 are a great option (I think that better than ev800). The vr d2 have an adjustable lens and in my case (I have myopia) I can use the Googles with my contact lens or without it just changing the position of the vrd2 lens.
I've been flying for a year or so with the vr d2 and I'm happy with them, now I'm starting to think in change them to a fatshark, but I'm not sure of it...

They are a good goggle, but not as good as my cheapy Kylin Goggles. What an amazing view....large, crisp, and great color. But the Kylins died after only 6 weeks. Because they are cheap and they died so soon, I did't want to have it happen again, so I went with the Eachine, which the screen isn't as big but otherwise they are fine...and they come with a DVR. I'm not a fan of the small goggles, as I don't like the view. When I fly, I like to enjoy the flight experience and the smaller goggles don't allow me to enjoy that. But, I know I'm likely going to have to get some as the receivers in the box goggles tend to be low performers, and I need a good VRX for longer range. It was suggested that I mod some box goggles with a better receiver, but not sure I want to do that. Anyway, like VooDoo said, it comes down to choice, and money. Good luck.

The HD input has stopped working and the power lead is a bit temperamental. They have great quality image and can be easily hacked to add a DVR. I tried a friends fatsharks and it felt like I was right at the back of the movie house rather than the font row seat you get with a large FOV.
Really its a personal choice, if you want to be able to fully enjoy the view from your craft while flying then I think a large FOV is better, but for accurate proximity flying, hitting gates, gaps etc, a smaller FOV will probably help. You're never going to win any beauty contests with box goggles though, if "fashion" is important to you! I did try some Fatsharks out at a local whoop race and i noticed that you feel more "inside" the quad with them. Hard to explain but i liked it better. I'll get some Fatsharks sooner or later. I also agree, with some of you: the ev800d I tried was perfect, until I tried some skyzones. While the tiny screen was difficult to get used to in my 1 flight with them, they were just so clear But now I seem to have another problem: the 4:3 fatshark attitude v4 or the 16:9 aomway commander. I have tried neither and don't know what I have been using, but from my understanding 16:9 is wider so you see more, but is less immersive? I have no clue what is best, as I also like the idea of the support of FatShark if I break it, the resale value it keeps and the idea of using Achilles and Pro58 to use things like band scanner... Nearly too immersive and having to move my eyes was a pain - though i bet its perfect for planes. Fashion isn't important for me, just not looking like a toaster! I also own an oculus rift and a gear VR. I played around with software to check FOV and I can say that smaller FOV was simply more comfortable in my simulator with my rift. So i guess I have made up my mind on box vs slimline goggles.
