Borken Caddx Nebula ?
#1
Hi guys,

I'm still upset for what happened this morning. First flight in the morning, I hit a steel structure, my Thinking P16 crashed down and while the OSD telemetry was still there, my image got completely lost.

I went home and first of all tried to connect to the Vista Module another cam (DJI Cam from Nazgul 5)... it worked so I exlcuded any damage to the module (pfiuuuu....).

I the tried to connect the Nebula to the vista module with another spare coaxial cable i have at home but nothing happened.

Excluding also the cable.... what could have happened to my cam ?  Cry Sensor seems to be ok below the lens and there is no visible damage...

I would like to avoid a 40EUR expense for a new Nebula with the risk of getting a V1 version...

Did you check if there is any damage to the digital cable connector that goes into the back of the Nebula? I assume you already tried to re-seat the connector?

As for getting another camera, I would wait until the new Nebula replacement is released which is due to happen quite soon. That will almost certainly be better than any version of the crappy Nebula camera. Or you could risk trying the RunCam Racer 4.

Thank you for your help Snow, yeah I tried to re-seat with different cables taken from other working cams I have.

Now after other tests i'm sure the cable can be excluded... it's something inside the cam...  any idea of what I can check ?

Yes, in case i have to replace it i will wait for the new cam... it seems to be in nano-form so it should work.

Sorry, I have no idea what to look for inside those digital cameras TBH and they seem pretty complex from what I've seen. I guess you've already had the internals out of the case and inspected them for any burnt / broken / missing components?

Yes, checked inside... an SMD condenser was desoldered but It may have been damaged during the opening of the case. After fixing that it still not work.

I noticed that after the crash the back cover of the Nebula broke like this

There seems to be a missing component in that area

Can anyone help me find out which component is that ? From the size it seems to be a capacitor but i'm not sure.

I would try contacting Caddx support. If they are worth anything then they will tell you what component goes there and what value it is.

Update...

Caddx customer service sent me the missing component without any cost, anyway i had to push them a lot to know the component type and value.

It's an inductor 2.2uH

For your information there is also an option to get a replacement motherboard for nebula at 16USD.

Thanks for posting the information. 16 USD for a new board sounds a very reasonable price to pay if fitting a new inductor to the Caddx Nebula doesn't work. As long as shipping isn't the same price as the part of course.

Please post back and let us know how you get on with the repair.

16 USD including shipping!  Wink

In that case it's almost not worth bothering with trying a repair. For the cost of an inductor, plus shipping of that, plus your time to repair it, with a risk that it still doesn't work afterwards. It might be good to do as an experiment though, or to keep as a spare board if the repair does actually work.
