Of course it can work in ideal circumstances but ... 10 miles out on 5.8 makes a cool test video for YouTube but for anywhere other than a barren desert or prairie is reckless putting it politely. There's a lot of people on Facebook doing some pretty funny things these days apparently... Again, my opinion and not just mine by far. One is likely going to have to exceed height restrictions in most places to maintain flyable signal at less than half that distance on 5.8 with terrain changes, obstacles, noise floors, etc. with a maxx-ed VTx? Yeah, sounds responsible... I think many people overlook the fact that the more "wattage" their VTx purports to pump-out, the more "wattage" in heat loss they'll get and not necessarily RF radiating from the antenna.
I also think it's worthy of mention that for any new people that want to put a cranked VTx on their machine just because they can, and think that's perfectly normal, we should probably encourage them to take a "HAM" course so they have some idea of what they're doing? Rather than send one more person out into the world to perhaps further degrade the quality of the hobby and perhaps usher-in more regulation? Yeah, crazy idea I know but at least I try...
One minute people are all hot and bothered about government and regulation and their hobby being oppressed and then we send-out new guys with cranked VTx's who don't need any education and who think they can go out 10 miles if the battery is up for it...
