4000mAH LiPo in 4s for my 7 inch.

Some are running larger batteries on their 7 inch, but also experience prop failures at a much higher rate due to the increase in weight.

For a little longer range if you are ok going slow, then do LiIon.  Or go 10 inch with much bigger batteries where 10 miles out is possible and at faster speeds than LiIon.  Bigger is better in the LR world from my experience.  Not to say you can't get good range in smaller quads, but really IMO there is no reason to go small unless you're afraid of The Man.

I use a DIY 4200mah battery pack made with Molicel 21700 cells. Works great, love these batteries. I use 4s, but making 6s is the same process.
Here’s a Simple DIY video:

Happy to answer questions, Cheers!

Note: the diagram in the video shows a balance lead connected to b2, which should actually be t2.

Now imagine if you had super thin and light prop. Carving would suck, but easily 20-30% more dlight time.

Hi, would I have good flight times and enough power with sony\murata vtc4 cells? I want them in a 6s pack for a 5 inch quad, that weights around 300g and 1800kv motors.

Not sure what average amperage you’ll be targeting, but VTC5a will give you an extra 500mAh but the max amp output drops from 30A to 25A.

I, and many here, are loving Molicel P42a cells, 4200mAh and 40A output, but they might be bigger than you’d like. You could also do a 4-5s configuration with 1800kv motors I’d think, to save weight.

Thanx for the good hint. I already bought some vtc4s, because they were really cheap. I'll try them out, and write if they are fine. VTC5 or VTC6 were better choise for sure, but I am not even sure that I want to do some proper long range, at this time. Molicells are really powerfull, indeed...might do some experiments with them too Smile)
Btw, I've watched you latest videos with hdzero..and they were great!

Today I've tried them and they are fine Smile) They were around 3.84v per cell, and I was cruising around super slow until 2.95(when I've checked them on the charger, they were around 3.50) Flight time was close to 9 minutes, and the quad had decent powerSmile) The battery itself is quite heavy- 304g..it is with some thick heatshrink and long wires. Here is a link: https://eu.nkon.nl/sony-us18650vtc4-flat...aimed.html They look like new, indeed.

Nice, glad to hear it worked out.

So this is a 6s 2100mAh Li-Ion pack and it weighs 304g?

Yes..it is 304 grams 6s, and it looks like I have 30 grams of heatshrink, cables and solder Big Grin Yesterday I did 12 minutes of light freestyle with it it, it has really good power..flight times won't be long as higher capacity battery, of course. I was with one of my old race frames and 2306 1700kv motors + dalprop spitfire(5147.5)

it doesnt make sense to use a liion for freestyle, liion makes sense if you press the whole capacity out of it whith slow flying, if the liion cells didnt stay under 3v per cell after flight, a lipo would be better everywhere.
everything else than capacity is worse on a liion battery in comparison Undecided

You are right, I was just testing the battery. It is my first liion pack, and pretty much I have no idea what to expect from such a low capacity liion battery Smile)
