Bad signal no idea why
#1
I've owned my nazgul 5 6s for about a year now. Ever since I've owned it I've had an issue with only ever being able to go about a football field away from me before video becomes extremely static that I have to turn around. Throughout the year I've upgraded the vtx to tbs unify pro 32 hv and have had nothing but issues with it. I can't get the vtx to properly "talk" to my fc. I also upgraded the rx from frsky xm+ to crossfire. I have the hd02 goggles with vas patch antenna and foxeer wildfire module. I'm not sure why I'm having this issue with this specific drone. I figured I could fly further with tbs unify pro 32 hv but like I said I can't get it correctly set up

So you are having trouble with Smart Audio control to your VTX?

Did you setup TBS Smart Audio to the correct port in the ports tab?

Did you copy over the correct VTX tables? Else by default it reverts back to the lowest power which may be the cause of your issue.

Give us a dump and an image showing the wiring for your VTX to the FC.

And just a simple addition but sometimes it's the small stuff: you're not feeding it 5V right? Since it's 6-25V I would guess 5V could reduce range quite a bit.

Another simple thing to check is the pigtail, if you have one, between the VTX and the SMA antenna connector.

These pigtail wire have an inner wire and an outer-sheathing, several times (as recent as last week) I've had the outer sheathing break loose of the connectors. This happens because the wire sometimes twists when installing, tightening, or removing the VTX Antenna.

You said you wonder why you have issues with this PARTICULAR drone. It might be a stupid question (since what you said implied what I'm about to ask) but that means that you have other drones that DO have better signal right?

There are a number of reasons this might happen though. Antenna or connectors for it touching carbon fiber, antenna screwed in too tightly (not likely but still worth mentioning) not using enough power, OR using too much depending on where you are. For instance, if you're in a place surrounded by many objects like metal structures, or even in a house you get..... You get...... *a certain type of interference which makes it worse having on the power too high. The strong signal will hit the obstacles bounce off and back into themselves distorting the frequency waves* There is a word for it.... _____ interference or..... GAHHH I can't think of the word, I know other people here know it, hopefully they'll write it so I don't tear my hair out every time I come back to this thread ;D   Also it could simply be a bad antenna.... or VTX. Although for myself, I never really expect to get much further than a football field away ESPECAILLY if I'm not WAYYY up in the air in an open field..... Try a different antenna, try one from another drone that DOES go further, if that doesn't work then try the VTX... if THAT doesn't work then check the mounting on your frame make sure the VTX isn't touching carbon anywhere.... Or maybe relocate the antenna. Or maybe even try a different frame IFF all that fails there really isn't much else I can think of that would cause bad signal.... but I'm not really too sure a full 300 feet IS that bad a signal..... Again though, IDK where you are, you could be in an open field in Montana or some dessert in Arizona for all I know ;O

OMG this word is on the tip of my tongue Dx someone heelllppp meeeee Cry  I might bite the tip of my tongue off and look for the word visually! lol  Thinking

Reflection interference? Multipath?
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.
