Babytooth Redux
#1
This 3" babytooth is my most flown/crashed/repaired quad. An encounter with an errant branch knocked loose an inductor on the old-style nano cam, leaving me with no video and a soft arm... I kludged a random, oversized part onto the camera board, put everything onto a 2mm frame, stuck some Avan bi-blades on it (first time trying them) and updated the FC to BetaFlight 4.4.2... I left elrs at V1, paired with my t-lite, until I get more time to mess with the latest versions.

I dumped the compatible settings from 4.3 into 4.4 and took it for a "golden hour" spin:

The 1.5mm to 2mm frame swap added a bit of weight and the tune that worked well before now has some washout and a wobble over ~3/4 throttle. There are a few bobbles in level fight as well, but they could from one of the hummingbirds that harass me from time to time. They don't seem to like it when I hug the tree canopies... I also notice the current sensor needs calibration. The flight summary is showing 743 mah used from a well worn and saggy 660 mah cell and a peak draw of 37 amps... Looks like I have some tuning to do. I might back out my copied configs and start from scratch.

Here's my current elrs antenna...

That is what's left of a happymodel T after the main cable was pulled through. One "arm" pulled out cleanly, leaving the other in place... I see no evidence that the other arm was attached in any way to the main length.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Mostly out of curiosity I reinstalled it. Overall, my reception seems to be down a bit but that could be because it's mounted with most of the antenna behind the arm...  Seems to work fine for my flying area though.

I'm starting to get jealous of you Walksnail guys. Here's another flight at dusk. It's actually much darker to the human eye than it looks in the video. I'm surprised at how much light the cam pulls in, but boy do you lose detail fast:

Oops. There's one of those darn branches again. I wonder what it would look like if I smacked one of the lightning bugs. lol.

Nice, for a second I thought you were going to fly through the fire and test your drones fire resistance rating.
Which motors are those? If you are running the Avan bi-blades without screws, I found the shaft grip gets loose after a few crashes so be careful. Gemfan biblades are stiffer and cheaper, so I mainly fly those, and HQ biblades are too much of a pain to balance as it seems every pack I've bought are terribly out of balance.

Thanks mstc. The motors are newbeedrone flow 1202s. 11420kv, iirc. The fc is an early betafpv elrs-on-uart aio with a gen1 flywoo vtx625. The core build is a couple years old now and has been surprisingly durable. I had the guts on a crux3 frame for a bit but didn't much like it. I probably would have kept it on a 1.5mm frame if they'd been available the last couple times I needed a replacement.

Good to know about the avans as I generally don't run screws. I haven't tried the HQ props either. I didn't like the 2.5" version very much. I've been using GF 3018s but decided to try the emax props after watching quad66's 3" motor comparison video. lol. iirc, He said something like not flying them made him angry... Truth be told, at my skill level, I'm not noticing much difference. I'll try and clean up the tune a bit and fly the avans until I run out. We'll see if I notice anything when I switch back to the GFs.

I noticed I have battery compensation set at 100%. I wonder if that might be detrimental without accurate current sensor readings. I think I'm going to start the tune from scratch... I have two new 3" builds I need to finish as well.
