Babyhawk 2 with D8!?!? REALY!?
#1
I did a quick search, didn’t see anything posted but here is my rant..
I mod the RDQ forum and someone posted a thread regarding “Babyhawk II d8 rx replacement ….” As I was answering a possible solution I looked again and said “wait, BABYHAWK!??! D8!?!?”… if anyone follows any thread I post on I have quite a lot of TINYHAWKS… so my brain was locked to tiny not baby…
I pulled up the Emax site and sure enough, $339 no rx +$20 d8 and +30 crossfire.. now don’t get me wrong.. I get 1,800 feet no problem on my Emax d8 rx in my ($120) tinyhawk with 32.8mm exposed element..
But… IT DOESNT CARRY A DJI VTX & camera and didn’t cost $350+
You would think with all the Frsky BS (accst/accss) non D8 support this would have NOT been an option.. and for $20, how about a RXSR /Xm+ or even the new archer..
Yeah, the d8 rx is emax’s.. but crossfire ISNT… don’t we see enough Frsky “binding” issues throughout the forums .. why add to the frustration of new pilots..
We know it WILL happen, someone will purchase this and not be able to bind it…
Did I miss something here!?!

D8 receivers actually have more range than D16 receiver so from that perspective it is probably logical to have a D8 receiver as an option for people who just want it to work natively with their transmitter instead of an external module. The only transmitters it won't work with natively are the new FrSky ACCESS ones but I'm not sure how many people are buying those these days. All of the older FrSky ACCST transmitters and 3rd party FrSky compatible transmitters such as the Jumper, RadioMaster and RadioKing all support D8 mode.

Agreed though that some people who do own one of the new FrSky ACCESS transmitters that only natively support the ACCESS and ACCST D16 protocols who aren't completely clued up are going to end up in a world of pain. But even if a D16 receiver was supplied instead of a D8 receiver then some people would still be in the same situation if their FrSky transmitter has ACCST 2.x.x installed on it. Only people with a Jumper, RadioMaster or RadioKing transmitter are going to have less headaches with either a D8 or a D16 ACCST receiver because the multi-protocol modules in those support all the ACCST modes -> D8, ACCST D16 1.x.x EU, ACCST D16 1.x.x FCC, ACCST D16 2.x.x EU, and ACCST D16 2.x.x FCC.

.. other than Emax d8 rx Kabab sells .. the only d8 I’ve got experience with is in most whoops (spi) and their poor performance … I guess that is where I was speaking from
My taranis is a older accst, and I have several quads with d8 RXs .. I left my firmware alone and just got a crossfire external module setup for my “larger” quads
